TM Landscape Design & Construction

We have had the opportunity to work with Larry Clay of Clay Construction on a few of his projects and each time we have found them to be extremely professional on conscientious. The nature of landscape work on a new home build is such that by the time many projects get to the landscape stage there is a tendency to cut out much of what is originally planned. Larry understands how important a well built and well designed landscape is for the homes he builds and works hard to make his clients understand this as well. Larry and his team at Clay Construction make every effort to ensure that the professional designers and installers they hire have a safe and clean work environment so they can do the work they are there to do. Larry understands and respects the knowledge that all his trades have and he does everything he can to ensure they can put that knowledge to the best effect. As a landscape design and installation company we are often one of the last trades on site and we get the honour of creating an outdoor space that blends seamlessly and compliments the terrific homes that Clay Construction builds.

This is because he has great communication skills, patience and understanding of the projects. This includes the pre-permit requirements, engineering and final finishes. I have worked with Larry at CCI for 8 years now. He has grown to be one of the best builders I have had the privilege to work for. His communication skills are top notch. His ability to work with the homeowners and problem solve to keep the project moving is fantastic. He is always great in returning calls no matter how busy he is. I know of no other builder who strives to make the construction experience for his owners as pain free. I give at least some credit for the systems he has implemented in making CCI so successful, but also his choice in trades who are all excellent, and what he himself brings to make something that can be challenging into something enjoyable. I met Larry Clay through the Greater Vancouver Home Builders Association and have worked with Clay construction for a number of years now. Larry and his staff very professional, very friendly, and a pleasure to work with. I am always proud to say to my peers, that I work with Clay Construction and that our window coverings go in to Larry's homes. I regularly get repeat business through Clay Construction, as we have formed a comfortable and trusting working relationship. It is always a pleasure to go to Larry's job sites as they are clean and safe at all times. Also, it makes my job so much easier when I am measuring perfectly "plumb" and "square" windows. Not all builders take the time to produce such high quality product. Larry Clay does ! This review is submitted with pleasure for a builder I will always enjoy working with.

Prism Systems Ltd.

Clay Construction sets the standard for General Contracting of Custom Residential Homes. When we (Globalview Home Technology) started working with them, providing system installations for security, audio-video and home automation technology, we were frankly a little intimidated by their Georgie Award and expected a lot of negative pressure. On the contrary, I found the Clay Group to be very team-oriented and supportive. The site was always clean, Larry and Isaac made the scope very clear and communicated well as intermediaries with the home owner. We were always made aware of deadlines well in advance which helped us plan to support the project. Change requirements were documented and transparent. The overall quality of the trades' work was second to none and we were very proud to be part of their projects. We've done two major builds with Clay and we look forward to many more... can't say enough good things about them!!!

When we first started working with Larry, it quickly became very obvious why Larry is considered to be one of the most respected, high-quality builders in the Vancouver custom homebuilding industry. I can attest to the high level of integrity and honesty in which Larry operates. He always has the client’s best interest in mind – even if it means that he does not end up “getting the job” at the end of the day. He truly cares about the needs of the client. On the project management side, Larry is always striving to build a better home, and is always passionate about taking the time to educate clients around how to ensure a quality home is built, and the “pitfalls” to avoid. I am a supplier of many years in the residential new construction field. I have the privilege of dealing with many different types of builders and trades people in the industry. In this position I am able to see the difference between a contractor who puts their client first and one who is "doing a job". In my experience I have yet to meet a builder who can balance a budget while still exceeding the clients' quality concerns. Larry's understanding of the unforeseen has made the clients that I have dealt with an absolute pleasure.They fully know what to expect and tend to be more educated in the process than other builder's clients that I spend time with. Without reservation, I would give Clay Construction and their team of professionals the highest recommendation possible to anyone who is considering a new build or an extensive renovation. - you can do no better!

As a concrete supplier I have known Larry Clay since 1997 when Larry first started to build part time. I have watched Larry's company grow every year. Larry and his team build with the customers needs always first and the product is one of the best homes built in our local area. Larry takes his homes to a new level with his drive to build energy efficient construction, using ICF for his foundations and wrapping the exterior of his framing with continuous rigid insulation to eliminate the thermal bridging caused by conventional framing. These are just a few of the examples of his work towards a healthier green built homes. I would like thank Larry and his team for the past years of business and wish him all the success in the years to come.

Larry Clay has not worked for me, but I want to praise him for his responsiveness. Out of the blue, from Boston, describing tiles I want to use in a New York City renovation, I asked him at around 11 A.M. Saturday morning in late January to send me specs on a particular kitchen wall tile. He called me back in an hour. Fabulous response! Just saying' . . . . I'd hire him in a heartbeat but we do have a New York City contractor already.

Modern Classic Building Solutions

We work with a lot of different builders from the GVHBA, but one who stands out in particular is Clay Construction Inc. We recently had the opportunity to work with them on a new build project in North Vancouver, supplying the millwork and counter tops. Their site contact Isaac was a pleasure to work with and is very knowledgeable. He was always able to answer any questions we had on site. Larry and his team worked with us and the home owners in a highly professional manner. Although the clients were very particular, Larry and his team met and exceeded their expectations which exemplifies their commitment to customer service. The result was a beautifully built, detail-oriented custom home. We highly recommend Clay Construction Inc. for your next project and look forward to working with them again in the near future.

From our first meeting with Larry Clay, he has been a joy to work with. He worked dilgently to establish a budget that would get our project built to our satisfaction and would still be within our means. He pointed out areas where we could save mony and areas where we probably needed to lower our expectations. Larry listened to our ideas with an open mind and made constructive suggestions where there were problems. He is very creative at getting things done properly and on time. Larry embraced the new technology required to build our house where many others would have run away or insisted on doing things their way. I would recommend Clay Construction Inc. without hesitation. We were beginning to think that our home would never be built when Larry Clay, of Clay Construction Inc., agreed to replace our previous builder. What an amazing difference! He immediately offered to arrange for us to see some completed houses and several that were at different stages of construction. His business systems are not only organised but also as transparent as you would wish them to be. He strongly believes in communication and is very adept at it, too. His sub-trades and suppliers are very good and when we needed to speak with any of them, he was glad to introduce us to them. Many builders and design-build firms claim to be custom but are actually spec builders re-using the same plans and options repeatedly. Clay Construction Inc. truly is a custom home builder. It's your house -- you choose! Don't just take my word for it -- his colleagues agree. Clay Construction Inc., is a Canadian Home Builders' Association 2013 Georgie Awards Finalist for Best Custom Home Builder in BC.
