“Our rating of Complete Masonry & Construction is not just positive, but enthusiastic! First of all, and this is a big positive - Pete answered my initial phone calls and messages promptly, and came to give us an estimate when he said he would. We had tried to connect with another mason who kept promising to call and never did, so that was an enormous plus in our opinion! Pete helped us find the right stone for our job, and when the first stone we ordered didn’t work out he went out himself and located much better stone for a lower price. He kept us apprised of his schedule and when he’d be able to start. He arranged for a concrete truck to come on the right day to lay the foundation. Once he started he and his guys worked constantly, and hard, in an August heat wave, until the job was completed. They were professional, did their best to keep things cleaned up, and were also fun to be around! And these guys are artists. They took great pride in making our steps not only sturdy and functional, but artistic. In fact, what perhaps impressed us the most was the pride they took in making it just right. One day we looked out to see one of them drilling out the previous day’s mortar because he didn’t like the way it looked and he wanted to redo it to look better. Pete himself came over on a Sunday afternoon right after he’d started the job to double-check his measurements, because he’d been worrying about them on his weekend. Pete employs only three other guys, and for various reasons only two were working with him at any time on our job, so there were only three total (Pete works right along side his guys). Be aware that it may not be possible to predict how a masonry job goes, either in terms of schedule (think weather!) or of budget. In our case, Complete Masonry & Construction was tearing out and completely replacing a set of outdoor stairs and a sidewalk. Once they got the old ones torn out they discovered there was no usable foundation, and so Pete had to start from scratch. We ended up with more stairs than we’d had (the previous set of stairs had all different lengths and heights), which meant more time and more stone. But that was ok with us, because he was doing the job right, and the stairs being replaced had been done shoddily. When all was said and done, we’d have happily paid more than Pete charged us. Since completion of the steps and sidewalk, neighbors have been dropping by to tell us how great they look, and we’re Complete-ly (see what I did there?) thrilled with them.”
