WINGES ARCHITECTS was established April 1991, and incorporated Jan. 2002. A small personal service architectural firm specializing in fine single family residential design of all sizes and styles. New homes, estates, vacation homes, second units, second floor and major additions, remodeling, design consulting and interior design. Unique one-of-a-kind custom architecture: Modern, contemporary, transitional or traditional styles to match our clients taste and requirements. Principal Jerry L. Winges AIA has practiced Architecture and Planning since 1974 after graduating from Harvard University with a Master of City Planning in Urban Design. He previously earned a Bachelor of Architecture Degree, with Honors, from University of California, Berkeley, 1970. Winges is a registered Architect in California, Arizona, and Massachusetts, and holds national certification with NCARB. Prior to the formation of Winges Architecture and Planning in 1991, Winges was a Partner with the firm of Hagman-Winges Architects of Menlo Park for 5 years. He also was an Associate and Senior Associate for Sprankle, Lynd and Sprague Architects, San Francisco, for over 8 years. He has over 30 years experience in design and all levels of practice. Winges is a past President of the American Institute of Architects San Mateo County Chapter, and is a Corporate Member of the San Mateo County Chapter of the Institute. He is also a Board Member and Past President of the Burlingame Chamber of Commerce, is a design review consultant for single family projects for the City of Burlingame, is a member of Sea Ranch Association as well as a property Owner, and is active with the Rotary Club of Burlingame and other service and charitable organizations. We are one of the few Architecture Firms to offer design consulting. It is a cost effective way to get your valuable design ideas and technical information on any architectural problem or project when you do not yet need full architectural or engineering services. I hired Jerry on a recommendation from a friend who had him design a second story addition. During the first design session that we had with Jerry he listened carefully to all of our objectives and came up with two options that would meet our goals at different budget levels. The first was expanding our first floor with a new kitchen, great room, bedroom, bathroom, and master suite. The second was adding a second story master suite that would give us a wonderful bay view. Jerry's experience and skill were obvious as he put together plans for our eventual choice of adding a second level. He meticulously worked on a design that would afford plenty of play space for our two young boys while giving us the master that we always wanted. Jerry was great to work with - friendly, intelligent, and very creative. Unfortunately our project is on hold for now as we're considering a move out of the area, but I'm thrilled with the work that Jerry did for us and I hope that the plans get put to use in the future.

Having Jerry Winges over to provide his hourly consulting service was a wonderful first step in planning for our second story addition. In the space of 7 hours, Jerry took full and accurate measurements of our existing house, determined what set backs and restrictions we would be facing, spoke to my husband and I about our priorities and desires of the project, and then sketched out a revamped 1st floor layout, as well as a proposed second story floorplan and an amazing sketch of our new exterior! We could not be more thrilled with his service and the clarity he has provided about what is possible on our uniquely-shaped lot. He is both incredibly creative with his ideas while also being very accurate and detail-oriented with his renderings. There was absolutely no pressure to commit to anything beyond the hourly service, and we now have a much better picture of what type of renovation we can do, and what the approximate costs and timeline will be. We are so happy with our decision to have Jerry over to consult on our upcoming second story addition. He took all of our jumbled up ideas and questions and created something truly perfect for our family. While it may take us some time to make this dream a reality, it was a perfect first step.

We worked with Jerry on a fairly significant remodel (we are adding on but also touching almost every existing room). We initially met with him for his unique hourly consultation service which allowed us to get to know his style and of course better understand his expertise. An all day session resulted in to-scale drawings of the house and some preliminary ideas for reworking our existing space to maximize living area and create an expanded kitchen that was more conducive to modern living. This initial hourly engagement helped us decide we wanted to work with Jerry for the full-scale design of our remodel. He was extremely professional, but warm and genuine, and listened to our needs and style preferences to deliver several designs for us to choose from. We always delighted in our meetings with Jerry. He is incredibly responsive to phone and email and provided timely feedback; he always met deadlines. Jerry was also mindful of our budget and suggested ways for us to change the design in order to meet the budgets we had set. It's also worth noting that he also knows our market (Burlingame) very well and was able to advise on designs that would move more quickly through the city's tricky approval process. Our project (addition of abut 500 square feet, new bathroom and complete kitchen remodel) began September 2014 so will try to update this review with photos once it's complete. I highly recommend Jerry to anyone interested in a remodel/renovation.

We were very pleased with Jerry and his team. We decided to work with him because we have a tudor style house and he has lots of experience with that style. We also had specific ideas of what we wanted and he really listened to us and helped design our vision into our home. We are now almost finished and love the vaulted roof he designed for our kitchen as well as our master bathroom. He reviewed the various phases of our project as it progressed to make sure it was meeting his specifications. We were very happy working with Jerry Winges and his team and we love our new kitchen and master bath!

Jerry Winges did a fantastic job putting our vision onto paper and now into reality. Jerry's warmth and understanding come through as soon as you meet him. He partenred exceedingly well with our GC and actually helped us pick him, though Jerry had never met him. In our project we added square footage and roofline with a new chef's kitchen and an incredible new master bath with two walk in closets. New roof, exterior archtiectural features, along with all new windows as well. Jerry listens and builds an understanding of your goals by asking numerous questions and providing unlimited project examples to help refine the vision you have for your project. What's really nice is before he begins drafting he will sit with you and draw your vision so you are not wasting time and funds for unusable plans. Jerry will also sit and help you choose your general contractor by making sure you ask the right questions, that the quotes are competative, that the competency and skill set are there to complete the project, etc... Once construction began Jerry stopped by periodically to make sure the quality of construction measured up to the plans he drew for us. A pure pleasure working with Jerry and I know if you and your family choose to work with him, your expectations will be exceeded.

Jerry was engaged as our architect with a mandate to update and expand a historically relevant home in Hillsborough. Jerry was able to capture the integrity of the existing house in his work and delivered to my wife and children a family home. Jerry was conscious of our needs as a large family and was able to blend those with our expectation of frequent entertaining. Jerry worked to expand our home from about 6,000 sq ft to 11,000 sq ft and added a detached garage and guest house. Jerry's ideas for a standalone, formal entry pavilion and thoughtfully integrated courtyards added tons of character and impact to our home. I recommend Jerry.

Jerry Winges of Winges Architects, Inc. created plans and oversaw the execution of two large project for our home. First, he designed a pool house and accompanying landscape changes from the ground up where he blended the new structure phenomenally with the existing main house. Maintaining the clarity of our traditional brick home with a separate structure on the property is not easy. We were very focused on blending and enhancing the architectural integrity of our home. Jerry met this task. He did this without compromising the functionality or livability of our family. Our new space is used daily by our family of five and two dogs. Our second project involved a complete overhaul of our kitchen and two baths, in addition Jerry relocated a stair case, created a laundry room, and added a wine cellar. Jerry was a great partner with us in absolutely achieving all of our objectives. He was listened to us but also added professional and creative opinions that led us to the right solutions. He managed the construction process as well as fine tuning the decisions at the end of the project. His follow through, creative genius, and overall good taste was very helpful and made a big difference for us and the ways in which we enjoy our home.

Jerry Winges has helped me with three different projects in the last 15 years and I have since recommended him to all of my friends! I have a 1929 house and Jerry figured out a way to perfectly renovate the "maid-style" kitchen and breakfast room into a gracious kitchen and sunroom/family room. It was tricky but Jerry was able to blend the new addition into the existing roof line and make the new sunroom/family room look as if it had always been there. Jerry listens and works with you to get it just right. Jerry has also helped me build a new bedroom and renovate all of my bathrooms, a pool house and a guest house. He is currently helping me re-design an 1875 barn in New England. One of the real benefits of working with Jerry is that he has such a wonderful working relationship with the building departments in the area. He is on the ADRB in Hillsborough and is very well respected. Jerry works with many high quality general contractors and landscape architects and has earned their respect as well. Throughout all of my construction projects, Jerry lead the team and the projects came in under budget, on time, and better than expected! We could not be happier! I give Jerry my highest recommendation!

Jerry Winges has done an outstanding work with our new house project. He has the talent to create a wonderful plan for the site and drawing for the residence - he has his BS in Architecture from Berkeley and a Master from Harvard. He is also very knowledgeable of the Hillsborough planning and approval process. He also works well with the general contractor. I would recommend any one who are interested in building custom homes to Jerry.

Jerry designed our house to work with the lot. He was open to our wants and ideas. We requested a prairie style house with lots of open space and great room. He came up with 3 options initially, and then worked with us to hone down the plan, and then submit to the local planning department. It did seem to take longer than expected.
