Scott has my highest recommendation. He is super easy to work with, very creative and he clearly loves his job. I'm a gardener and thought I knew quite a bit about plants but Scott blew me away with his knowledge and appreciation for the wonderful array of plants that grow so well in the PNW. He created an exciting site plan for our home after a visit walking the property. In a short time he had drawn a plan that met our needs. He then refined it and put it into professional drawing to go out for bids. He made the bidding process easy and efficient. Unfortunately due to an upcoming move we were not able to complete the entire project, but we have a beautiful plan to pass on to the future homeowner. Scott appreciates a budget and doesn't push to go over your comfort level on expenses. In addition he has worked closely with a number of landscape installers who are eager to work with him to get the job done. Scott is a consummate professional who is responsive and transparent about costs, timing and expectations, but more than that he is a true creative who can envision your landscape and translate his vision into a finished product that works for your specific desires and site.

We recently completed a renovation/new build on our property. The project included a considerable amount of reworking the landscape design. This was a sizable undertaking and we didn’t know where to start. Our realtor referred us to Scott Lankford. On our first site visit with Scott, we knew we had made the right choice. On that visit, Scott hand sketched a drawing which included a concept design. This was extremely helpful and we were able to visualize what it could be. It was very important to us that the landscape complement the new house design. Scott was very patient and explained each step of the process in detail. After our first set of drawings, we decided to make some changes (more than once) and he was very creative in how to make those revisions come to life and work within our budget! We are very happy and pleased with the outcome….we couldn’t have done it without Scott and his team!

Scott and his team helped us redo the landscaping on the front and back of our home, which was the last phase of a full remodel of the house. Our backyard has a view of the water and was going to be the site of our son’s wedding. We wanted to make the yard easier to move between the two levels of the yard and enhance the overall outlook. At the front of the house, we wanted an entrance from the driveway that was appealing to walk through and beautiful to look at. Scott came up with a plant that met all of our needs and helped us find a landscaping contractor who performed the work beautifully. We’re very pleased with how it all turned out. We hired Lankford Associates to help transform a blank waterfront landscape to one that is functional and low maintenance. There were multitude of issues from accessibility, usability, grading, drainage to privacy that needed to be solved. We also needed an architect with extensive waterfront experiences to guide us through the complex waterfront development restrictions and permit requirements. We interviewed nearly a dozen companies. Scott stood far above others in terms of knowledge, experience, and unparallel communication skills. His attention to details and ability to truly listen, and his creative approach to problem solving made him an easy pick. Scott’s rates, surprisingly, were also very reasonable when compared task time estimates provided by others. When we opted to manage the construction ourselves, Scott helped us break down the project into phases. He tirelessly went over all the details so that we knew what to do and what to expect every step of way. He also assisted us with material/plant substitutions when we encountered supply issues. He did all that free of charge because he was as eager as we were about seeing the design become a reality, especially during an unprecedented time. Now that the construction is behind us, we can confidently say that Scott has delivered a design that is high in function and low in maintenance. He has given us an incredibly attractive landscape that is unique and interesting to look at year-round. His landscape design not only compliments the style of our house beautifully, somehow it made our yard and the interior of our house feel bigger (yes, we are still pleasantly baffled by that!) Scott Lankford has done three landscape architecture jobs for us. We consider his expertise, attention to detail, friendliness, and customer satisfaction a five star combination.

We hired Lankford and Associates to landscape our home on Camano Island. The project included design and installation of a paver patio, fire pit, lawn, flower beds and paths on the sides of our house. Also, a dry creek bed, irrigation, raised beds and completion of an existing fence and new gates. We loved Scott's design from the get-go. He was very attentive to the way we use our property. Paul and his team (who did the installation) were amazing and completed the project in an unusually harsh and wet winter. No problem. We are delighted with the finished project, as are our neighbors. We have received many compliments on our yard and inquiries about who designed and installed it. It has been great fun to watch the plantings develop. There is always something new blooming. The project was a bit of a splurge for us, but we have absolutely no regrets as we so enjoy our yard.

Scott was wonderful to work with. The detail and follow up and follow thru was really outstanding. We did a backyard project and were pretty clueless about what needed to be done and Scott was very thoughtful and helpful in going thru all of the details from the dirt work that was needed, to selecting plants, to showing us the grading that needed to be done - he was with us every step of the way. We were hoping for much more, much sooner. Perhaps our expectations were incorrectly aligned, but we felt we were taken advantage of. It took over a year, we were billed more than contracted due to "revisions", when we struggled to get an initial plan. It was a mess, and we would go months without contact. We saw and respect the work Lankford and Associates has done. We're also very disappointed our project didn't merit that same care and attention.

Scott was a pleasure to work with. He really listened to what we wanted and delivered a beautiful design. He went over all the plants so that we knew exactly what to expect, and met with the landscape company (that he helped us find) before and during installation. The garden is coming along beautifully, and we get loads of compliments from all the neighbors! We'd recommend him without hesitation.

After a brief 10 minute visit to our property where we explained approximately what we were hoping for in a new patio, Scott pulled out his sketchpad and quickly drafted a 3D drawing of what he envisioned for us which WAS EXACTLY WHAT WE WANTED! It was uncanny, and the final results mirrored his original sketch really closely. His calm and friendly demeanor along with his creative talent and deep understanding of all manner of plants, permitting, materials, and processes, made the whole process a pleasure and free of complications. Our entire experience working with Scott Lankford - from initial phone call to completion of the project - was outstanding. He asked great questions and listened to all of our concerns/desires/challenges, then proceeded to create a backyard design (integrating our existing deck) that we could never have come up with ourselves. He listened to our feedback and made adjustments to the initial plan in response. His attention to detail and quality was reassuring. The result is a beautiful, sophisticated, entertainment-friendly yard. In addition to the design, we were also impressed by other ways he assisted us in the project. We wanted the "WOW Factor" on the water side of our of home and Scott, Lee and their landscape design team made it happen. Lankford Associates worked well with Orca Masonry, our Landscape contractor. Scott did a fantastic job for us. We had a beautiful yard already with mature plantings, but our community has water restrictions and we wanted a beautiful yard with much less grass, and because we are in an area that has a lot of wind we wanted a front yard patio where we could sit with a glass of wine or entertain. Scott came up with a plan that rearranged the mature plants and added to them, gave us a beautiful two-color concrete tile patio, some privacy from the street, and an area of real-looking artificial grass to cut our water use. The neighbors watched weekly progress, loved the end product, and we couldn't be happier. Thank you, Scott for a beautiful job well done!

Scott Lankford came to our home and made a sketch to discuss general landscape layout based on our desires. He then provided a landscape plan that included all or our desires plus the much needed design expertise he offered. Scott came the day our plants were delivered to check the quality of the plants and to layout the location of the plants. Scott's eye to detail revised the placement of some plants from the design plan to better fit our existing conditions. We now have a landscape we are proud of that has year around color, odor and habitat friendliness. Plus our neighbors brag so much about our landscape that one had a photographer friend come to take pictures for a presentation she was making.

I started working with Scott Lankford in August 2017 to design my outside front/back area of my summer home. I needed to find a way to reinforce the hillside that was being supported by junipers and now was no longer holding the bank. Scott designed a spectacular multi-level rock terrace which permanently solved my problem. Scott then worked on designing the back side giving it a new and updated look which included new fencing, new entertainment area and flower beds. When I started this project I wanted to have a design that was little or no maintenance for me, and Scott has accomplished that. Scott always kept me informed of the progress of the project by sending pictures and emails. He was on site all the way through the project making sure the design was being completed. I would highly recommend Scott Lankford as an landscape architect.

My wife and I hired Scott to provide a low maintenance landscape design for my childhood home. At the end of our first meeting, Scott gave us a sketch/preliminary layout of what we had talked about - plants, patios and fencing. A couple weeks later we had a plan with specific plants choices and hardscape colors to review with Scott. He walked us through the design showing pictures of all the plants that would be used. We asked Scott for some landscaper references since we didnt have one. The references were excellent. Scott stayed engaged with the project the whole time ensuring everything was done per plan. We couldn't be happier with the result, which we never could have done on our own. We moved into a new house and decided we needed help on a landscape design. Scott came out and listened to our extensive list of wants and needs. Before he left, he had done a rough sketch of an amazing design for our yard. We were so excited with his ideas we hired him to do a detailed design. Scott was also invaluable in finding a landscape company that would implement his design. Over the next 3 months, Scott oversaw the project, working with the landscaper and addressing any concerns we had. When we contacted him about a rather large change/addition we wanted, he drew up the change and the landscaper had it by the next morning. We enjoyed working with Scott and benefitted from his vast knowledge. Because of his willingness to take input from us and his attention to detail, we now have a beautifully landscaped yard that we will enjoy for years to come.

We have used Scott twice, both at our old house, and where we presently live. In both cases, the design work involved defining grades, hardscapes, drainage, and plantings for rural acreage. The quality of his work is excellent, which is why we have used him twice, and also why we recommended him to two friends who employed him for landscape plans for suburban residential landscapes. Scott is very easy to work with. He listens very carefully to what your goals are, and translates those into concepts you can review. He is careful to go over the types of plants you may prefer (by showing you pictures or images from the Internet). And, he has no problem with making adjustments once you fully understand the proposed plan. There is not even a hint of designer arrogance in his approach. In our cases, we had tricky drainage issues, which he completely solved. My builder was very impressed with his ability to discern very small variations in grade by eye, or with a hand-held optical level. He was able to gather all of the grade information he needed on our three acres in just a few hours. From my experience on two projects, spanning a couple of decades, I recommend Scott without reservation.

Working with Scott translating our vision into reality on a blank landscape was a very good experience. Scott is well informed, prepared to anticipate our concerns, and provided various options for our consideration. Scott is receptive to and encourages thoughtful constructive feed back from us and then follows up as he says he will to ensure all things are as planned and on the planning documents. My wife and I worked with Scott Lankford to redesign our entire large waterfront Camano Island property. Scott was great to work with, and we had warned him from the beginning that since we were both designers ourselves we had definite opinions. Scott listened to our ideas and preferences and reviewed plant options with us. His expertise with salt-waterfront conditions was very important to us and the success of our project. The finished yard surpassed our expectations. There are a number of areas where we commented that we never would have considered those colors or plant combinations, but Scott knows what he is doing. He took the time to explain his choices and placement so we would understand his thought behind his design. He worked in conjunction with our Landscape Contractor Paul Beykovsky, the owner of Western Gardens throughout the project, and because we were somewhat hands on, Scott only consulted when necessary. They make a great team! We have already recommended Scott Lankford and will, for any landscape design project.

Scott has a wonderful approach to designing phenomenal landscapes! There is a reason why his projects look so great. He is easy to work with and acts as a consultant. His 30+ years of experience brings a wealth of knowledge on all landscaping and floral topics. He listens to your desires, likes, and dislikes as he works through his process in creating a design that you're going to love. He is also very upfront on design costs which are very reasonable. Once you have the design in hand he can stay involved in helping you find a good contractor, assessing with the contractors' bids are reasonable, locating the plants, checking the placement of the plants and their health before planting, irrigation installation, etc. You are free to use him as much or as little as you deem appropriate. His goal is that you're get the landscaping you've always dreamed of within the confines of your budget. He is busy so don't hesitate calling him to get in line so he can get your project done before planting season.

Scott listened to our needs and preferences and translated our vision into a workable plan. It has been fun to watch our garden mature and take on its own character as it interacts with its location on the water. We also appreciate that it allows for a flexible maintenance schedule, which makes it an enjoyable activity rather than a chore. The plants are drought and storm resistant, and mainly just require some weeding and pruning.

Scott Lankford and I have worked together for many wonderful clients over the past several years and we have a very similar approach when it comes to working with our clients. We are both very collaborative designers. We spend a lot of time from the beginning of the design process drawing with our clients, making sure they feel that they are part of the design process, and they really enjoy seeing our drawings evolve as we work with them as part of the design team. When I start a new project I will frequently start working with Scott early in the process so we can collaborate on the integration of the landscape with the architecture. One of our specialties is to design residences in salt water environments. My fiancé and I had the pleasure of working with Scott Lankford this summer as we started preliminary planning to landscape our Texas lakehouse. Due to the distance between our location and Scott’s offices, we chose to do an online consultation. We were absolutely blown away by what Scott was able to accomplish with a few (very!) rough sketches of our property and some photos. Scott walked us through the information he needed by providing a questionnaire that asked for priorities, wants, and problems we were trying to address. Scott’s questionnaire not only helped him to visualize what we needed, it also helped us to work out what we wanted most from our home’s surroundings. We have recently begun to put our landscaping plan into motion, and are now talking to contractors and nurseries in the area. Everyone that has seen Scott’s sketches has commented on how great they are...that they haven’t seen anything as thorough or meticulous in our area before. The costs for these sketches were extremely reasonable, and included not only a total, phased plan layout but also several additional q&a sessions to get the details perfect.
