From the point we hired Rod to the point of finish for our kitchen (first floor) project Rod made himself available with his knowledge of architecture, past kitchen projects and experience with suppliers. Rod met with us in November to start planning and made it a point to listen to the conversation and fit in the smallest details of our desired results within the space restrictions. Once the plan was finalized he was very helpful in looking for resources and hiring for the project. Rod made himself freely available to us as well as our contractor for support and instruction for the duration of project. We never felt pushed or persuaded to go in one direction or another. We were truly the captains and Rod used his skills and experience to give us what we wanted. We always appreciated Rods perspective that no detail was too small and that he was there not to make decisions for us but to insure we didn't make long term errors. We love the finished project and would not hesitate to work with Rod again.

It was time to renovate our master bathroom. Rod had remodeled our kitchen 2 yrs ago that receives compliments still to this day. We started with 3 samples of products we wanted for the bath. When it was completed, it was more beautiful that we thought possible. Anyone can get a qualified person to do a renovation. From the beginning of the project, Rod was able to conceptualize a kitchen/family/dining room space that would be open and modern while also warm and inviting for family and friends. He incorporated our ideas, but also wasn't afraid to push back if he thought we were going a direction we would regret. He personally helped us select countertop material, light fixtures, and cabinets -- ensuring we stayed within a certain aesthetic that we could enjoy for decades to come. The result: A timeless kitchen with an updated appeal. But the bonus? He brought in a contractor, Gerbus Remodeling, with the most professional, courteous, talented, disciplined team. Rod Sidley kept us on track and on budget -- not missing a beat when he needed to replace light sconces that arrived broken or change the floor trim when we opted for a lighter color. He even researched floor legs for the island countertop until he found the ones we liked. He truly delivered on their motto that there is no such thing as an insignificant detail! All in all there was hardly a hiccup and the work progressed smoothly, making the stress of living through a home renovation quite manageable. We are impressed with the results and would choose Rod Sidley Architects for any home remodeling job.

We had a 1960's era kitchen, small, dated, and inefficient. By expanding to include an outdoor covered breezeway, we gained a functional, bright, and comfortable kitchen for two cooks. We added storage and pantry, a baking area, a designated prep area, two sinks and two ovens, and shelving for cook books. There is a window ledge holding herbs during the winter season. A highlight is an island that functions as a work and serving area as well as a gathering spot for three generations of family. Rod incorporated the breezeway arches with custom arched windows which was a key element in the final design from both interior and exterior perspectives. He suggested a honed granite that reduces glare in our natural light-filled space. Effective lighting illuminates all task areas yet gives a warm glow at night. Rod listened well to our requests and incorporated them in his design. His drawings helped us visualize our ideas. He successfully incorporated a functional kitchen in a 1930's house. His suggestions for design and materials were essential to a kitchen we love.

Rod was the architect on a major remodeling that was 14 months in process. The result is extraordinarily successful, with awards, magazine articles, and a charity house tour marking the quality and esthetics. Always communicative, sensitive to our preferences, a refiner of our ideas, regularly and reliably on the job, and the perfect collaborator with the contractor. This project was a continuation of a long association with a Rod, both in work on our home and as a colleague in the efforts of several church building committees. Ethical, professional, energetic, and a clear communicator, he has been the necessary part of a team whose work has given us great satisfaction.

When we began brainstorming for a major office remodel and expansion, Rod listened carefully to our ideas and proposed interesting design concepts of his own. Rod Sidley and his associates did an excellent job designing a house in Maine for us. It was a renovation of a 1970s house that was on the water. They did an excellent job of understanding the program and providing excellent views and materials. They were easy to work with. I consider Rod and his team friends. The process was enjoyable. Rods strengths include his understanding of materials and his ability to fit his design within the neighborhood. He appreciates a variety of views and strives to individualize those views. He also worked well with our contractor. His knowledge of materials resulted in several unexpected bonuses for the project. Rod loves carpentry; his design for cabinets in our house fit perfectly with the overall architecture and has been appreciated by many of our visitors. We have been in our house for approximately 7 years now. We have had no redos and few regrets. Rod designed our home in 1999, and supervised the construction over a period of three years. My husband is an engineer with lots of ideas, which Rod took into account as he developed the plan. He also guided us with selection of materials and finishes. Fourteen years after completion, we still enjoy our home and our friendship with Rod. He is very knowledgeable, creative, and easy to work with. There is very little we would change about our home, and we would definitely hire Rod again for any architectural needs.

Rod Sidley is both an artist and a master of the technical skills necessary to successfully design a house or a remodeling project. He says, “There is no such thing as an insignificant detail,” and that was certainly our experience. Whether it was the technical specifications, or the details of the Federal style we requested, he made sure they were properly executed. Additionally he is a listener and a creative problem solver. He designed the house of our dreams, and it works for us exactly as we planned. It is beautiful inside and out, and, although a “fill-in” project in a long established neighborhood, it looks like it has always been here.
