Pine Street is like family to us - that really is the easiest way to sum up our experience. In fact, we have an appointment with Dana and Brendon next month to begin designing & planning renovations for the 2nd & 3rd floors of our home. After their extraordinary work on our 1st floor, we cannot imagine working with anyone else. We learned of Pine Street from a neighbor, who had retained them for a remodel of her kitchen. Her kitchen is beautiful and she spoke highly of the quality of Pine Street's work and, importantly to us, their integrity. Dana and Brendon saw us through the designing and planning. We were immediately impressed and knew Pine Street was the clear choice. Work was set to begin in mid-March 2020. And then of course came the pandemic-related shutdowns. Thankfully the delayed start was brief. Thus as an initial consideration, Pine Street managed the uncertainties posed by the pandemic beautifully - we had total confidence and trust in them as they worked in our home and they extended us the same. While it was certainly interesting having no kitchen during a pandemic, that was made up for on a daily basis as we saw our home transformed. This was a significant project - firstly, because this is our dream home, a Grand Old Lady on the National Register of Historic Places (c. 1902) - but also, because of the nature and scope of the work to be done. A large structural wall was opened, which required a steel I beam and concrete footings in the basement. Another wall was removed and yet another moved to create additional space in the kitchen. The butler's staircase was removed and the original, treacherous staircase to the basement was removed and a new, safe one built. A powder room was added where there had been none. Radiators were taken offsite and restored - just gorgeous! New flooring was installed throughout. And the list goes on! A point of emphasis for us was that all mill work match up with the existing historic materials; to this end, Pine Street retained Amish woodworkers. There is literally nothing Pine Street can't do: with both my husband and myself working from home during the pandemic, we certainly put them to the test on a daily basis with our constant ideas and incessant scope creep! Pine Street always delivered! A shout out to those who saw our dream fulfilled, though I know I won't get everyone. Dana, Brendon, Emily, Sean, Matt, and Ed were amazing onsite and off. Tommy is a mad genius and Jimmy, who practically lived in our home for 5 months, is gifted (and patient) beyond measure. From demo - with guys like Big Dan who was so good with our dogs - to the final details taken care of by Adam among others, we cannot thank them enough. We chose Pine Street for a full house remodel (replacing electric, plumbing, major structural revisions) of an historical home in the West Chester borough. Our primary objective was the highest quality work that would preserve the historical aspect of the home, but fully modernized and at the lowest reasonable cost. Nearly three years since we engaged them and we continue to feel like that was the best decision we could have possibly made. The essential things that made this experience wonderful for us, particularly as first-time home renovators, were the detailed planning and rigorous project management, the quality of craftsmanship and expert network, and the incredibly warm professionalism and care of the team. In sum, they delivered below our initial cost projections and ahead of time — nearly the opposite of all the horror stories we’ve heard about some of the other crews. In the beginning, it was a very difficult decision to choose Pine Street. Their cost projections were higher than their competitors by A LOT. I nearly dismissed them because of it. But the level of detail and thoughtfulness in the bid really won me over. When I questioned competitors about some of the detail included in the PS bid, they would always respond that if that happened, they would need to increase costs, etc. It really made me worry about what final costs would eventually be and I ultimately chose PS for their transparency and integrity. Perhaps the best element of the entire project was the onsite project manager. This is a person who will be your main point of contact throughout, who will have all of the answers and will ultimately know your home better than you do. This is an enormous gift and a real relief in what would otherwise be a stressful time. Ours would call us proactively, make great suggestions and recommendations (things that you just don’t know as you begin, but that are revealed as you get started). For example, he had a piece of reclaimed barn wood in his garage that he used as an accent piece in a stairwell or, in another case, was able to use parts of the existing rafters as trim in the bedroom. These little things feel brilliant when you’re trying to preserve the feel of the home and keep costs low — and these are simply things we never could have anticipated in the planning stage. This role in your remodel can really magnify the experience as a client. Another aspect to consider is that Pine Street has cultivated a network of people they trust over years of experience and working together. Every single person who came through our house was knowledgeable, respectful and responsive. The team would not have allowed it to be any other way. Further, at the end of the project, they gave us a portfolio of contact information for each person that had worked on the house, so if anything goes wrong or we need some additional work, we have a network of folks that know the house and that we know we can trust (and who, by the way, will be very quick to respond out of respect for their relationship with Pine Street). Finally, the part that is hardest to articulate, is the warm professionalism that the team brings. You’ll feel it first with Brendon when you call with your first inquiry, but you’ll leave feeling nearly astonished that the entire team carries it forward: problems will be addressed and solved before you even hear about them; the site will be clean at the end of every day without fail; the team will stop what they’re doing when you enter to make sure you can see and understand the steps that are being taken (and they never got impatient with our very frequent visits). Again, all things we didn’t know before we started but ended up defining the quality of our experience. It is an important decision to choose the right partner in these efforts. I can get easily stressed out by the volume of decisions that need to be made and was vigilant about costs and timing. The Pine Street team exceeded most of our expectations and left us knowing we made absolutely the right decision.

From design process to punch list, the team at Pine Street was professional and first rate. Dana and Matt were extremely helpful in helping me to carry out my vision of what I wanted in a kitchen. Aaron is the absolute best when it comes to carpentry; he is calm and meticulous in his work. Jimmy came in at the end of the project and made sure every detail was complete. He noted things that I had even missed and made sure they were corrected. Aside from their professionalism, the team was all so nice and such a pleasure to work with. I would recommend Pine Street without hesitation to anyone looking to remodel their kitchens.

Our experience with Pine Street Carpenters was excellent from beginning to end. Dana was wonderful during our design process, and Tommy and his crew were professional and left our house spotless when they left. I worked with Pine Street on the design and build of my new kitchen, mud room and dining room, including an addition. It was a big project. Pine Street and their entire team were wonderful in every way, from the design through the build and all throughout the process. They stayed on scheduled and on budget, and they were extremely accommodating of all of my requests, going above and beyond to make my vision a reality! I highly recommend them, the workmanship was great and i get RAVES on my house. And it took less than 4 months, which I think was great (new basement under the addition, all new kitchen and mud room, new wall put up, 1 1/2 walls down).

How often do you find a contractor who knows how to work with clients as well as they work with materials? Not very often in my experience, but Pine Street Carpenters is one of these rare firms that sets and meets high standards. They designed and renovated our entire second floor – a large and complicated project – in a way that minimized the disturbance and time to complete. When problems arose - as they always do with construction work - they were right on top of them: responsive and thoughtful. We are thrilled with the results, and when we tell our friends that we actually enjoyed the process, they can’t believe it!
