Thayer Design Studio is a Boston based studio specializing in interior design and braided woven wool textiles including custom rugs, storage baskets and ottomans. Our products are designed in Boston and made to order in Rhode Island, USA and are designed to be customized. Founded by artist and product designer, Meredith Thayer, Thayer Design Studio draws on an understanding of material, texture and process to design with intent and focus. Building on a decade of experience in the rich textile manufacturing traditions of Rhode Island, Meredith has a passion for high quality design and craftsmanship. Her aesthetic is textured, refined and uniquely balanced. Located in Boston, Massachusetts, we work with clients throughout New England and beyond and welcome the opportunity to work with you!

We hired Meredith to handle two phases of a major project. Phase One was getting the house ready for move in, with Phase Two being a major remodel and additional interior design work. Meredith quit our job unceremoniously less than 6 weeks before we were to move in, with nothing ordered or managed for the move in process. She obviously had her mind on the bigger project and quickly realized she was unprepared to deliver anything in time or on budget for Phase One. It was an extremely disappointing and stressful situation for us and she left us in a major lurch. Additionally, her design recommendations were squarely in her specific style with overuse of the go-to pieces that you can see on her website, and not at all to our specifications or requests (which we'd outlined in details before hiring her). We thought she would have range and she proved very quickly that she did not. I would not recommend her.

Meredith was really a joy to work with. She helped us to focus our design for a truly beautiful result. She incorporated her own baskets and rugs in a cohesive fashion. We look forward to working with her again!

I absolutely loved working with Thayer Design Studio and cannot wait for them to do the rest of our home! Meredith is so attentive to every detail, she really pays attention to how your family uses the spaces and what you imagine for the space then applies her creative vision to making it happen. Seeing her work made me realize that designers are artists who work to create something beautiful, and that beautiful does not have to be impractical when it comes to home design. The rugs she designed for our home are so beautiful and we always get compliments on those as well as the overall design. Our home is so much more functional and delightful because of her design. She is also just a joy to work with warm, kind, funny, organized and professional!
