My wife and I decided to update our kitchen by renewing the cabinets. Recognizing that this was going to be a once in a lifetime and costly event, we did our due diligence and interviewed 3 companies. Island Dream kitchens certainly weren't the cheapest but, based on reviews, agreements made to have the job completed at a specified date and the willingness of the operator to arrange the trades work required to complete - we chose this company. The quality of the cabinetry was 4.7/5 - excellent suggestions made in the planning stage and we pretty much got the arrangement we wanted. That being said, it appears that the quality of finish on the inside of the doors isn't as tough as that on the outside as we are already experiencing coating failure. The quality of the cabinetry and trim installation was 4.5/5 - we had to have a company installer return on 3 occasions after the initial install to complete work that wasn't finished correctly or not finished at all. There wasn't a problem getting a person back each time and the work completed was excellent but I feel that this shouldn't have been needed. A simple solution would be to have a quality control check completed after the install with the homeowner and any issues dealt with. The quality of the timing to complete the installation at the agreed to date was 3/5. Due to my work schedule, we had agreed to have the work completed in a window of late August to mid September when I was away at work. The project got started the middle of November, a day before I returned home and this small installation (cabinet and countertop) wasn't completed until the end of the first week in December. The complete project (excluding work that I took responsibility for) wasn't completed until the middle of December. The quality of organizing and coordinating the trades to complete drywall, remove and re-install the granite countertop, complete a small amount of electrical and plumbing work was 3/5 - I understand that delay and cancelled appointments are an "accepted" part of "working with the trades but organizing the trades accounted for 50% of our decision to go with this company and willingness to pay the high cost. Of course, this was a major contributing factor in the delays. The quality of workmanship of the selected trades was very good. Overall, I would recommend the quality of the cabinetry offered by Island Dream Kitchens but would recommend that responsibilities for organizing trades is clearly understood when signing contract.

Not long ago, we purchased a townhouse which needed updating of the kitchen cupboards and one bathroom vanity. Our neighbour recommended Island Dream Kitchens. We hired the company to replace the door and drawer fronts and countertops in the kitchen and bathroom. Mike and his staff were very helpful in helping us select the colours and materials that we wanted. The installation crew did an excellent job of making sure the installation was done to our satisfaction.

We had a very positive experience with Island Dream Kitchens. The team were professional and personable, and they performed the project on a timely basis when they said they would. From planning to execution everything was as good as it could be. We are very happy with our finished wonderful new kitchen.

Last year my wife and I decided to redo our kitchen and living room entertainment unit. After a number of contacts with various companies and a number of home visits and quotes, we invited Mike Brown to come and finalize the project specifications. We chose Mike because of his honest assessment of what needed to be done in our living room. He provided an option that made a lot of sense to us contrary to what others were suggesting. He was detailed in his assessment of our kitchen needs, right down to the process of replacing the shelf tape trim. We chose material and color and left the project in the hands of Island Dream Kitchens. Tracy, the Project Manager, came out for final measurements and he was fantastic. A great personality and very, very knowledgeable. The renovation timeline fit perfectly with what was going in our lives and Tracy and his team managed to adjust effortlessly to a few requests that we made during the process. The results speak for themselves. About a month after install, we had an accident in our kitchen which took a chunk out of one of our cabinet doors. We called Mike and he took the door and completely refinished it for us in 48 hours at no charge. Class act! The project has long since finished and I am still amazed at the quality of the transformation. My wife and I sometimes just say to each other “wow”. We thoroughly enjoyed working with Mike and Dylan as they helped us plan, then built our new kitchen cabinets. They are patient, smart, funny and have very high standards, which they are good at meeting. They use high quality building materials and finishing hardware that works smoothly. They did what they said they would do, when they said they would do it , and the final result is outstanding. The room makes me happy daily. Also, their installation crew are very affable and capable, which is always a bonus. I recommend this company highly on all points.

Outstanding communication from the design stage right through to a finished project. Mike and Dylan assured us that they would provide a result that met our needs and satisfaction. And they did that and even more - adjusting plans as the project progressed. They did this patiently as we iterated through several changes. Always professional with many helpful suggestions. The finished product (cabinets , countertops, farm sink, range hood, backsplash, ceiling and undercabinet lights) looks very good and professionally installed. The main problem I had is the length of time this small project took from start to finish, about 6 months. I realize that all the renovation companies are extremely busy, but I got the feeling that our small project ( $35-40,000) was delayed because bigger projects were given a higher priority, especially in the middle of summer. It did not matter too much to us timewise, as we were home and available all the time, but everybody might not be as accomodating and agreeable as us. Another factor is that we did not realize that the person coordinating and doing all the hands on day work was not employed directly by Island Dream Kitchens. He was contracted by them to coordinate and finish the rest of the job after the cabinets and countertops were installed. This work consisted of flooring, plumbing, electrical, painting installation of the range hood, farm sink and dishwasher. This all turned out fine at the end of the job, but it was not the one stop shopping that we believed we were getting, Also, it was a factor in our ability to come up with a reasonably close idea of what the final cost of the whole project would be before we signed the contract. Partial blame is on us, as we were in somewhat of a time crunch and not able to ask more questions face to face before signing the contract. Anybody else should try to get a final timeline and estimate of the peripheral costs that the contractor will end up charging you before signing up. All told, the finished product and workmanship were great, but coordination between customer and company and timeline could have been better. j

We moved in the summer and prior to moving into our new home and on rather short notice Island Dream Kitchens built us a.new pantry trimmed around the fridge put in a new corner unit in plus repaired another corner unit and did a couple of other small repairs. They were friendly, courteous,prompt,professional and the workmanship and finished product is excellent. Everything blends in with the original kitchen as if it were all done at the same time. We would highly recommend this company to anyone. Also the cost was as agreed prior to the build.

Mike and his "Dream team" did a lovely job with the cabinets for our small bathroom renovation. They are beautiful, functional, and maximize the use of the little space. They matched the cabinet colour exactly to the tile in the shower. My husband especially likes the wrap-around drawer under the vessel sink. Looking forward to working with Island Dream Kitchens again when we tackle the laundry room next!!

I believe in trying to do business with local companies, and Dream Kitchens made it easy. We asked other local companies to to come and view what we wanted, the only ones that showed up was Dream Kitchens, and one wanted fees to drive 8 kilometers. The workmanship was excellent, quality was excellent, and the project was on time and the cost was on budget. We would suggest to anyone looking to do kitchen renovations or new build to try Dream Kitchens, they are outstanding to deal with!

Mike and his team at Island Dream Kitchens showed their strength and precision in construction working on this quirky 1940's home. In a transitional space with uneven walls and floors, they built a beautiful long white oak desk, floating wall shelves and custom built-in storage for an odd-sized closet. They mounted a grand white oak barn door to seal away the closet clutter, unify the space and provide easy access to my client's fond possessions. It was a friendly, professional collaboration that finished on time, on budget and with great results.

We hired Island Dream Kitchens to build and install cabinets for our re-designed kitchen, after reviewing products and quotes from three other local contractors. We worked with Mike to design a unique corner desk with three stand alone components that could be rearranged as each was completely finished on all sides. The pieces matched the finish of other units in the room and included a bamboo working surface that blended into one working surface. The finish and components are of the highest quality and the all was completed within the budget and on time

Mike and Dylan re-did our kitchen in March 2016. From the outset, their responsiveness and attention to detail was outstanding. Our renovations were a combination of new doors and new construction - all magically put together into a wonderful new kitchen. My wife and I purchased a new condo in downtown Victoria and had IDK quote on the numerous projects, built in bedroom bed and end tables, dresser and built in closet. This was precise work where space was to be used efficiently...they surpassed our expectations. They came in under budget, over quality and on time. They're very pleasant and flexible to work with. We viewed built ins in the show suite of the condo development where we had purchased in The Songees district and got in touch with Michael Brown of Island Dream Kitchens to meet and discuss similar craftsmanship in our 2 bedroom suite. We met with Michael and Dylan in May after our initial walk through and gave Michael keys to begin work. As the procedure continued we would come up with ideas to customize one area or another and Michael was always receptive and helpful in making our requests realitity. A lot was done through email as we live out of province. Michael and Dylan were great to work with and we are so pleased with our condo from the beauty cabinetry to the closet space saving built ins. We have enjoyed a couple of recent experiences which exceeded our expectations. The first, a custom laundry/mud room with oversized cabinets, built in washer-dryer and granite countertops which looks awesome and has generated a lot of wows! The second, was more impressive in my opinion because it was a small remodelling job which required skill and craftsman to enable a large fridge to fit within existing kitchen cabinetry. You cannot tell the difference between the new and old cabinets, it looks so natural and the design fits perfectly. It was easy to work with Mike and Dillon, who were both timely and efficient. We have, and will continue to recommend them to friends and family.

We were building our Lake House on Shuswap Lake in the Interior of British Columbia, and contracted Island Dream Kitchens to design, build and install our custom cabinetry in the Kitchen, Laundry Room, Bathrooms and each of the closets in the bedrooms and entry way. We also had them design a custom wood counter top for the laundry room. They delivered amazing craftsmanship on time and on budget and focused on the detail to ensure we were 100% happy with the outcome. It was very clear throughout the process that qualified caring professionals had taken charge and even in the middle of the install when we requested some modifications to the design, they were quickly deployed without another word. Communication throughout the project was excellent, and we were even updated with photos along the way so that we could feel a part of the project before the installation. Overall, this was a very professional organization delivering quality craftsmanship and outstanding customer service!

They brought all of this together and produced a rich custom look from Bamboo that brings accolades from everyone who see them. The resulting cabinetry is superb, fit and finish is top notch, with only first class materials and hardware being used culminating in a level of execution that looks and feels like it should be in a kitchen costing much more. As our project progressed they kept us up to date and provided feedback and timing for all aspects of construction, finishing, delivery and installation. They made themselves available to accommodate our hectic schedule sometimes working into the dinner hour with customer service and communication skills to be proud of. Mike and Dillon Brown of Island Dream Kitchens completed a total house( very large kitchen, 7 bathrooms and interior closet work ) in an 8500 square foot home in the Uplands area( Oak Bay ). They went out of their way to ensure that the finish and fit of all cabinets were to the highest standards possible. They were easy and professional to deal with and my wife and I would highly recommend their firm for both simple re-do's or for the most complicated high end jobs.
