It took my wife and I a few years to decide on renovating our apartment. It was one of those situations where the apartment was aging, but everything was still functional. Initially we thought of only renovating the bathrooms, then we included the kitchen. One thing led to another and we decided to renovate the whole apartment. The cost would be much higher, but over the long term we would be enjoying a completely new apartment. The next difficult task was to find a reliable contractor. As this was our first apartment renovation, the internet was our main resource. We googled and located a few potential contractors. After performing due diligence and interviews, we decided to go with Level One. The main reason was that we lived in an apartment and their specialty is apartment renovations. They had also done a few projects in our building. So they knew our concierge and property management firm. Alex Dumitru of Level One was the contact person and Alex Robinson was our site manager. Both Alexes were professional, highly experienced and very efficient. Renovation in an high rise involved a lot of coordination. It was critical to protect the common area and to maintain cleanliness. This would include the elevator. All debris must be disposed properly. Alex also reached out to our adjacent neighbour and helped her with some minor work. The renovation was done smoothly even though the Covid 19 pandemic had resulted in product delays or the need to find substitutes. Renovation is all about workmanship and details. Level One definitely excelled in both areas. During the renovation, many details and finishes had to be adapted to deal with the apartment limitations. Alex gave us great workable solutions. We had a wonderful renovation experience and would highly recommend Level One for apartment renovation work.

I have been and am so impressed with Level One Construction. To sum it up best, they were on time and on budget for our 5 month home renovation. There were never any big surprises or cost overruns. Alex D at head office and Alex R project manager were so good at getting back to messages. It was so evident that they cared about their work and about the project and us as homeowners. I would not hesitate to recommend them to any family or friends and will even miss having them around. Thanks again Level One!

I hired Level One to do a full gut on my condo. As a first time home buyer I was really nervous about all those bad contractors stories. My experience with Level One was seamless- I got a detailed quote and breakdown, they had ample knowledge of what they were doing and were very responsive and helpful. They also finished on time!! I’m really impressed with how everything turned out. Even when I felt the need to make changes they were accommodating. The workmanship is perfection and I would definitely recommend them to a friend.

When my clients ask me to recommend a contractor I have several criteria that need to be met before I’ll make a recommendation: 1) does the contractor provide a firm quote that clearly outlines all items that will be included in the contract, 2) is billing transparent and additional charges are only for items the client has agreed to in a change order, 3) are contracts honoured, 4) does the project team display respect for clients and their needs, and lastly, is there backing from a skilled team who will implement my design properly — without any budget creep? Level One Construction meets all my criteria. The entire team at Level One displays a high level of skill and respect for clients. I look forward to working with each of them again, and know my clients will as well.

I'm sure you've heard all of the horror stories from your friends who love to scare you with their have first or second hand experiences of renovations: "Take your budget and double it!", "Take your schedule and triple it!". We heard it all when we told our friends we would be taking on a condo renovation in Vancouver. We hoped our experience would be different. From the very start we had a good feeling about working with Levelone. Their level of professionalism was immediately apparent from our initial discussion about our project when we met them at the Vancouver Home show. After getting quotes and interviewing several other companies it was clear that the team at Levelone had listened to our questions and concerns. They were able to help us develop a very clear understanding of the budget and schedule. Throughout the whole process we felt like we had the full attention of our site manager. He was incredibly patient and was available to meet on site or answer questions every single time we asked. The final product was delivered with exceptional attention to detail, on budget, and on time. Apparently unheard of in the industry. We are now happy to tell all of our friends that renovations can be done on time, on budget all with an excellent relationship with your general contractor. Thanks team!

West Beach Window Coverings

I've been a Window Coverings sub contractor with Level One for the past year. The level of commitment and loyalty is unparalleled. We come in at the end of every project... a time when there is plenty of opportunity for clients to be frustrated. 95% of my clients just want the Reno to end by the time we come on the scene. However,all my clients associated with Level One have all raved about their service and care. They carve a special relationship with all their customers. From my perspective I would recommend them to anyone considering them to be their contractor.

We were delighted with our Level One experience. They recently completed a full condo renovation for us: 2 bathrooms, kitchen, new flooring, lighting, fireplace. Their comprehensive service included interior design, planning, detailed costing, permitting, and managing all aspects of the project from demolition to construction. They use top quality trades people and we found the Level One team to be professional, friendly, responsive, and easy to communicate with. The project was completed on time and on budget. We have had the luxury of being able to work along side a wonderful and very skilled contractor. Level One is very professional, easy to work with and we would highly recommend them to friends and family. poor experience with this company and extremely rude response to firing them. Overpriced quote which they refused to breakdown into electrical, plumbing etc. Nice demeanor for the staff but owner is a bully.

Hello Gerry,

Level One strives to help homeowners understand the true costs of their renovation. As a professional company, we use our expertise and knowledge to formulate a plan that will meet the homeowners financial and spatial needs. When homeowners request changes and items above and beyond their budget, Level One’s course of action is to advise them of any red flags and allow them to make the decision.

In addition, our policy is to provide a breakdown of all the work. This includes demolition, electrical, plumbing, drywall, installations, etc). You received this breakdown on June 4th. We also apply a cost to each subsection, which is broken down further into the specific work (i.e re-wiring of electrical, adding 23 new switches, etc). It is unfortunate that this was not detailed enough and would have loved for you to explain what aspect wasn’t clear. However, we never heard from you.

Furthermore, we do not condone any sort of bullying or aggressive behavior from any staff member, owner or not. We’re upset that you feel we were bullies when we tried to collect the outstanding $5000.00 balance of the still unpaid design fee. As per the contract, the Level One team performed its obligations by providing you with a full set of design plans, specifications, materials plans, and millwork plans.

Level One doesn’t take shortcuts. Level One doesn’t bypass city rules and regulations or the BC building code. Nor do we remove asbestos illegally like you had asked. At Level One, we do everything above board with transparency and properly permitted. We cannot at any point knowingly turn our back on this to accommodate a budget or a wish, as our credibility with past and potential clients will be ruined. Furthermore, we spent over 15 years building our relationship with the city, it is something we pride ourselves on and wouldn’t risk it to accommodate any clients wishes.

Gerry, we would love an opportunity to sit down and discuss this issue with you, but as we have been unable to reach you for the final payment, it comes as a great shock that we were fired as no such communication was passed on to any staff member.
