Lacey Architecture is a young, open-minded architectural design company passionate about residential design. Each project is approached by considering your requirements, context and your budget. We listen to our client's requirements and provide a high level of practical support and advice throughout, particularly for those who haven't built or extended previously. As well as a quick turnaround and pragmatic approach for those in the construction industry or with more experience. We combine fresh contemporary thinking with an unusually high level of hands on practical experience. We love buildings that are logical, economical and straightforward to build, while layering details in a considered and practical manner. We have a passion for practical, achievable sustainability without relying on expensive 'bolt-ons'. Cohesive design and considering the surroundings allows the building to be responsive and complement the context. We are able to assist with survey drawings, planning/lawful development packages, Building Regulation and construction drawings for all scales of residential and commercial design. Your project was one of the more challenging floor plans to resolve! The house has had an unusual and varied history (multiple commercial use), leading to a difficult to live with floorplan for a family home. However, after a bit of head scratching over the plan, it now feels a fantastic and calm home and each room has a clear flow and purpose.

The quality and finish is a real testament to your patience, eye for detail and the skill of the contractors. It looks wonderful Duncan!

We had a fantastic experience with Lacey Architecture. We came to Verity with a fairly rough idea of what we wanted to achieve. We were hoping to replace our garage and porch while providing some additional form of home office space. We didn't have any well defined ideas of how exactly we were going to achieve it or how we wanted it to look. Verity took the time to talk with us, suggesting a range of ideas, and providing excellent detailed sketches and 3D artwork for the options to help us come to a decision we were happy with it. She also provided really helpful guidance for commissioning drawings from her, the stages of the planning application process and selecting a contractor. The full set of drawings including having a green roof on the garage, as well as additional drawings when our contractors asked for extra details. Part of our requirements were for a sound proofed music room, and she did the research to really explain to us what that would require and identified potential systems we could use to achieve our goal. We are very happy with our finished build, particularly some of the details she suggested that we wouldn't have thought of that really bring the whole design together and enhance the look and feel of our home. We would, and have, happily recommended Lacey Architecture to others.

My wife and I had decided we wanted to continue around the back of our house an existing side extension built in the 1990's. We quickly exhausted our own ideas on how this could be done and realised if we were not to make a dreadful and expensive mistake we needed professional assistance. After meeting three local architects we chose Verity on some very simple bases. She was prompt and reliable and as it turned out, very efficient. If Verity was visiting she arrived at the time and date arranged. Drawings arrived on the dates agreed and timescales were always kept to. Verity was patient in her dealings with us and helped us reach conclusions about the build that we had previously struggled with. We also felt that as a younger architect she would bring a more contemporary eye to the project than might be the case. Her manner was always professional and considered but at the same time friendly and agreeable. What really helped was her ability to see through the complexity of the build and alight on viable and interesting solutions where we could only see problems. Her attention to detail is meticulous and her clear understanding of the principles of construction meant key engineering issues were not missed. The rocketing costs of building materials and work meant that we needed to find ways to cut the cost of the build once we'd accepted a quote and chosen a builder. Verity was instrumental in working with us and our builder to find ways to reduce costs without compromising the overall look and feel of the project. Once again, her knowledge of the building industry was a great help. If anyone was looking for an architect for any type of project, I would have no hesitation in recommending Verity.

Delighted to have helped you realise your dream kitchen. It really is a wonderful space. Cant wait to hear what Hillary does with the garden and the raised planters! It is great to be able to adapt your existing extension and make so much of the space by reconfiguring the layout.

I’m so pleased we found Verity to help us plan a small single storey extension with a reconfiguration of the existing internal space to create a kitchen/diner/living area with separate utility room. A great communicator who’s quick to respond to calls and emails, she listened carefully to the brief, was very patient when the design went through various revisions, and had excellent advice and suggestions. The result is wonderful – balanced, transformative and far better than I could have imagined. We even built the patio she designed! Should we ever embark on another building project, I would definitely hope to use her services again.

Verity has been so helpful and supportive in seeing through our single storey rear extension, which has transformed our house into a wonderful family home. She really listened to what we wanted, and was able to take our vision and translate it into a design that needed very few tweaks before finalising for planning approval. The level of detail in the drawings helped us to understand what was achievable in the space. It also provided all the information required throughout the design and build process. I especially liked the way in which Verity outlined and explained each stage throughout the project making something that could seem complicated and overwhelming become simple and achievable. She was also very quick to respond to any emails or phone calls and we were always kept up to date with progress. Having recently completed our project we are very pleased with the outcome and would definitely recommend Lacey Architecture, so much so that if we were to have any further work done on our property, we would certainly use her services again.

We couldn't have asked for more. Verity is very professional, she's prompt with her replies and thorough. She listened to what we wanted and was very careful to make sure this was reflected in the brief. She completely reimagined the layout of our old cottage and has really made the most of the space. She did our planning applications, which was less painful than I imagined it would be. The whole process has been smooth and stress free for us and that is down to Verity explaining everything as we went along and being so efficient. Our builders have even complimented the quality of her drawings and electrical plans, which apparently they don't do often!

Having found Verity almost by chance, we soon became her biggest fans. She planned our house renovations with great skill and attention to detail and we were so impressed with the breadth of her knowledge. We asked Verity to plan a 2 storey extension plus a large garage on a tricky angular shaped plot, where every millimetre was crucial to make it worthwhile. Not only did she achieve this, our plans made us realise what a brilliant small plot we had bought, and now we have a huge (well for an Edwardian terrace!) open plan kitchen/diner/lounge, a new studio/office room with an outside terrace and views to die for, and we can fit 2 cars in our new garage plus ample parking. We could have never achieved this without Verity’s skills and belief in our project. Thank you so much.

We approached Lacey Architecture with a view to extending our kitchen, providing a boot room and WC, and lightening up our home. All were achieved in a seamless and professional manner. Communication was always immediate and supportive and all our ideas and dreams were listened to and implemented. Drawings were produced quickly, discussed and changed if necessary in a relaxed and collaborative fashion. Lacey Architecture was our preferred Architect for our residential training centre this year. This included 3 large workrooms, a commercial kitchen and 20 ensuite bedrooms. As our centre was both in the Green belt and a designated Area of Natural Beauty (AONB), the building design had to be both environmentally sensitive and cutting edge. We were literally blown away by the designs that they produced! Everything we explicitly asked for (and even things we hadn't realised we wanted!) were included in the designs. Use of green tech and considerations like private seating areas, covered walkways (and even an outdoor amphitheatre!) were incorporated, all the while ensuring the whole build blended seamlessly into the natural environment and surrounding woodland. Furthermore, the attention to detail and aftercare throughout the whole planning process was second to none. Even the planning officers were impressed - not only with the design, but also the thoroughness and responsiveness at every stage of the process. We are so grateful that we were recommended Lacey Architecture and will definitely use them again for our future projects!
