Kristin graduated in 1989 with a bachelor degree in Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin. After 12 years of working in architecture firms, she started her own firm in Encinitas in 2001 -- focusing on design of custom homes from the ground up, additions and remodels. “I'm keenly interested in connecting outdoor with indoor spaces. After all -- it's hard to design a space without wondering where the BBQ and outdoor gatherings will be ... how this will directly link with the indoor spaces,” Kristin explains. “Also, I couldn't possibly design an indoor space without thinking comprehensively about furniture layout, or whether or not there is appropriate wall space for hanging art or photos. An Architect should wear many hats." These connections are reflected in her designs. The outdoor spaces flow seamlessly from indoor to out. "I don't think I've designed a house for the last 10 years that didn't include a huge fold-away door of some sort that directly links the home to the garden." This invitation for the outdoor areas to become an integral part of everyday life is a key focus of her designs. "After all, we live in a perfect climate! We live in Paradise!”

I wholeheartedly recommend Kristin Von Zweck as an architect. We love the final product, which is our fully remodeled formerly single story ranch house, now a gorgeous, well-designed 2 story craftsman home. Kristin went above-and-beyond during every step of the process. A really good example of that is when we went up onto our roof, and she drew out with chalk where our windows and furniture would go, so she could maximize the view sight lines as part of her design. I really appreciate her attention to detail...I can't tell you how many well-thought-out elements she included in our house. There were skylights, solar tubes, which brought light from the roof all the way down to the first floor, planning for the future by adding an elevator, huge windows to open up the upstairs, covered patios and she even drew in her plans where our dogs would sleep! The last thing I want to mention is that Kristin is very environmentally aware, and included many 'green' features in our home that will help us conserve energy as well as allowing us to enjoy our home in a more environmentally responsible manner.

We took several architect bids for our room addition project, but chose Kristin because we got the sense she was better at thinking through the "whole" design beyond just the structure, including placement of furniture, the landscaping needs, impact of natural light, curb appeal, etc. Kristin also made us think about the areas adjacent to the room addition, and had excellent ideas of small changes which would ensure it didn't look like an "add-on", but that it had always been a part of our home. We were SO pleased with the final design as well as the experience of working with her and would recommend her to others without any hesitation at all! She's a true professional, loves what she does and it shows in her work.

Kristin is an amazing architect with an excellent eye for design, flow, space, materials and colors. She helped me with an entire kitchen and bathroom remodel and was able to add creative and important design elements to my vision -- elevating the result to be my absolute favorite kitchen and bathroom. Kristen von Zweck is a wonderful architect who helped my family transform the house we bought in 2010. She is thorough, courteous, and responsive. She has worked on 4 projects for us so far and we hope she will work on one more at least. Her professional expertise helps home owners make the right decisions on building and renovation projects. She knows all the answers to questions about permits (very important in the San Diego area) and is professional yet very friendly. Her attention to every detail made it incredibly easy for our contractor to execute her visions for our home. Kristen has always been very available for any consultation needed before, during, and after our renovations. My family highly recommends Kristen von Zweck.

We hired Kristin for a whole house remodel based on a recommendation, and we very pleased with the outcome. We gave her models that we had designed - to tidy up and make code legal - and she returned with a much different design that was far more appealing than what we had imagined ourselves. This seems obvious as she's a pro, but not all pros are this good at their jobs. As this was a redesign of an older home, she was always available to interface with our contractor when the inevitable "surprises" arose making everything go as easily as possible without undue delays. The end result was just great!

Kristin was a pleasure to work with on every aspect of the design of a beautiful home in Southern California. She was very professional, handled every change proposed with patience and respect. Kristin had many brilliant ideas that we would have not thought of and the final design was amazing.
