KenCairn Landscape Architecture

Kerry worked with us on a subdivision project that we were building, and she did an excellent job. Her vision and forward thinking was very aligned with our goals. Now we own a landscape company and we have worked with her firm as a contractor and have had very good working relationship. We have sent her clients to do design and we are always confident that the client will be happy.

Kerry was just who we needed for our project. She was detail focused, quick to return our phone calls/emails and sensitive to working within our budget.She combines an artistic talent with design expertise. One of the constraints of our project was working with in a small space with numerous sub-contractors. Additionally, we are in an historic district. She embraced the challenges with a "can-do" and make-it-happen attitude.

The project at a private residence was to hardscape and landscape a yard (~0.2 acre) on a steep slope, and it was accomplished as planned over approximately a 1.5 year period. It included obtaining necessary permits, fixing drainage issues, designing and installing metal and wood arbors, a wood deck, a flagstone terrace, an outdoor kitchen, a bocce ball court, a large rock garden, interconnecting walkways, and a drip irrigation system for the plantings. The design for the hardscaping was professionally done and included survey-based, computer modeling to make sure everything fit together properly. Concrete work was employed for the outdoor kitchen (countertops, etc.), sitting wall, and steps. Concrete block was used for large planters. The landscaping was well thought out and included fruit and shade trees, schrubs, flowering plants, and vines, with room left over for vegetable gardens. The entire project was completed to our satisfaction with regard to aesthetics as well as quality of construction. It was a pleasure to work with KenCairn Landscape Architecture.

KenCairn Landscape Architecture did a great job with our outdoor living space. The design reflected our desires for the space and Kerry consistently contributed ideas that improved the plan. Our project involved outdoor areas that were unusable in the summer because of direct sunlight and heat. Arbors were needed and the end result was fantastic. After building our house, we engaged KenCairn to develop a 3-stage landscape design for about 1/2 acre. She listened to us and advised us as newcomers to the Pacific Northwest as to the best plants to use. Her designs were just what we wanted. She also gave us a realistic estimate of the costs involved not only for her designs, but for the landscape installations as well. Her guidance to Solid Ground, the firm that implemented the planting, and to our builder (for a water feature of her design and other hardscape features) were clear and precise. Faced with a homely house on more than an acre without a front door and so little exterior charm, Kerry put together a design team for both the house, the construction, the landscape design and the installation. Two years later, I was thrilled to call this HOME, not homely!! -- and six years later I am even more delighted! Over a year in the planning, Kerry was always enthusiastic,empathetic, creative and determined to bring her part of the project in on budget. As well, to provide me with a design that brought the outdoors in and allowed me to live a great deal of my indoor life in my outdoor rooms. Year around, I find my landscape design a joy and a pleasure to while away the hours with friends and in lovely solitude.
