James Dixon Architects (JDA) has brought calm to this building project on Copake Lake from the first moment we spoke to them. It all began when we called their offices and met Valerie after doing some research and looking through portfolios. Valerie is the office manager and such a delight! Following our call with Valerie, we spoke to Jim, Founder of JDA, and took him through our vision. We knew right away after that call with Jim that JDA was the right fit for us. The synergy and feel good moments continued when we met Matt and Jesse who are wonderful architects, collaborators, and visionaries. Their attention to detail, creativity, and ability to execute has been everything we had been asking for. Not only do they listen and implement your ideas, but they were always willing to take us through their ideas to improve the project and maximize the design. We relied on them heavily to understand functionality, new trends, materials, and great design ideas. They have a great vision for the project and continue to amaze us with their creativity. The team continues to coach us through all decisions as their communication is superb. We have felt informed and connected on every step of the building process from bidding out builders, to picking out materials as well as weekly updates from the site. We are mid-way with the construction of our project and we can’t wait for the next steps building and designing together. We move into the lake home in the Fall of ‘22 and know our home will meet all of our dreams. From the moment we met James (Jim) Dixon we knew that we wanted him and his team to design our new home in New York's Hudson Valley. We contracted with James Dixon Associates (JDA) to design our home as well as oversee and project manage the construction process. The design process we went through with the team was not only highly professional but also such a very enjoyable experience! We always looked forward to the design meetings because of the collaboration of each one of the architects on the team and their ability to listen to and incorporate our every wish. Each member of the team has a tremendous amount of talent and creativity and they all suggested details we had never considered but that have made the design uniquely ours. We are about 6 months from completion of the project. Jim or his team have been on the site weekly since the construction began, making sure that no detail is missed. We receive a weekly Field Report with photos which has been particularly important to us since the Covid 19 situation has limited our ability to travel to the site. Jim and his team have done a spectacular job ensuring that the vision we and they had is being executed flawlessly. Their communication skills, attention to detail and overall professionalism is no doubt why the project is going so well. And, the icing on the cake, they are all just such terrific people and fun to be with! We could not recommend Jim and his associates more highly.

This was my first time working with James Dixon Architect's. I worked with Jim Dixon on a residential addition and extensive remodel to an existing house. It was a very positive experience, from the initial drawings and concept, through the conscientious and thorough ongoing management to the completion of all details. He took a very ordinary house and with a relatively limited budget in relation to the extent of the work, added a few sparkling design elements which transformed it into a total delight that the owners just loved and which they did not anticipate. They were pleased beyond their greatest expectations. It was a pleasure working with Jim and his competent staff.

We worked together redesigning a master suite bathroom and dressing room. Jim provided numerous plans to chose from originally. Then once plans were chosen he provided client, contractor, and decorator (myself) with detailed scaled plans with in the week! We had weekly site meetings as work progressed. As ideas changed he always supplied us with updated plans. He also managed the contractors beautifully! Jim is a wonderful architect with a charming but reserved disposition and has great attention to detail. He works very well with both contractors and decorators and uses great diplomacy to manage and finish projects in a timely manner. Not only do I highly recommend his firm but will work with him when I next get a chance.

Jim Dixon was the architect for a major renovation/reconstruction of our house. We became interested in Jim’s work from newspaper articles that described his work, where we were impressed by how he was able to merge old and new. When we were ready to plan the renovation, we asked Jim to come out to discuss the possibilities. We were interviewed at length, so that he got a sense of our priorities. Based on this interview and a detailed examination of the “old” house, Jim presented us with three different plans for further discussion. Each of these plans contributed elements to the final plan, which was refined further over the next fifteen months. This was an exciting period because Jim is a good listener, who developed a good understanding of what we were looking for – primarily light. Jim took this further, such that the public rooms – kitchen, dining room and living rooms –at the same time functioned well on their own and yet were connected such that they functioned as one when we wished so. The most important element, however, was the conversion of a dark and dreary, not very user-friendly, staircase into a light-filled piece of art. During the construction, Jim or one of his colleagues was at the house at least twice per week, and they always were available by phone. We are very satisfied with the process and with the final product. During both the planning and the construction, Jim was creative and flexible; he seemed to enjoy the give-and-take during our discussions, where he would focus on the key issue at hand and develop our tentative ideas into well-formulated plans that would be subject to further scrutiny. Jim and his colleagues are very knowledgeable, professional and easy to work with.

James Dixon has been the upmost in professionalism, sensitivity and architectural prowess in regards to our 1800's farm house. We are delighted with the results of his diligent plan, design and execution. Designed and oversaw the addition ofa pergola to our historic house. The design was appropriate for the house. The pergola significantly enhanced the appearence of the house and improved the functionality of the patio.
