Hardwall Outdoor Living

I hired Brian of Hardwall Outdoor Living in June 2019 and paid a deposit of just under $4,000. I was given a start date of August 2019 (weather permitting). After months of delay which Brian attributed to the weather, he contacted me in early 2020 advising that he would start on my project in late March. Brian once again pushed out the start date due to the weather. From June to early August 2020, Brian provided a variety of excuses for not starting on my job, he set dates to start, then didn't show up or contact me to advise he wasn't coming. On August 6 2020 I advised him that I will hire another contractor and that I want my deposit returned to me. He said he would have his office manager contact me the following day. I have not heard from him or his office manager since, and have had no response to my follow-up email and text.

I am a very frustrated customer. We hired Hardwall Outdoor Living and paid them a deposit June 20th, 2019. We contracted them to complete a small retaining wall. At the time they had very good reviews. They said they were busy but would let us know when they would schedule us in. Late summer they said they planned to get it in before the end of the season but many jobs were pushed back because of the weather. In January I contacted them to determine plans for the upcoming season and he responded, *we will be out next week with a thaw blanket and do your job." Just what I needed, sarcasm. I contacted him in April and he advised that they would plan on getting to it when the ground thawed. I then contacted him again on May 23rd, 2020 and I don't think he remembered our contracted project and that we had signed up almost 1 year ago. I asked if I had lost my deposit and if he planned on doing the job. Brian advised that he intended to complete the job as soon as he could because he had our wall blocks in his yard. I have texted him twice since that day asking him if and when he expected to do the job. Then I asked if he would just give me the blocks and I would have someone else do the job. No response. Then I asked him to send us our deposit back. Again no response. Be warned. Think twice about contracting Brian and Hardwall Outdoor Living

We hired Brian in April 2019 to renovate our patio and install some raised planters. There were good reviews on his website, at that time, and he showed up professionally. That’s where it ends. We gave him a 25% deposit in April for him to start in May; our project started 14 weeks later in mid-July. He was all too eager to immediately ask for more funding when he got going. Red flag! He didn’t return until October. Our regular phone calls over the summer were met with typical responses – “You’re next on the list; the weather is not co-operating”. We fired him in October after he finally showed up and ended up damaging our deck. He refunded us a portion of our deposit and we paid him for some concrete demolition. He still owes us over $5000, which was confirmed through a provincial court judgement. Our backyard is a mess, we incurred additional cost in deck repair, and spent an eternity navigating the legal system. If this sounds appealing - this is the guy for you.

I hired Hardwall Outdoor Living (Brian) last June 2019 for my yard renovation project for an August 2019 project completion. Initially Brian was responding to my messages and calls quickly. I gave Brian 3,063.38 last June as a down payment for my project and agreed on an August 2019 time frame. I send him text messages and call him so often to inquire about when my project will start, but He gave me the same answer over and over again - that the weather is wet and cant really start until it goes dry. Same reply month after month until i did my last follow up on the 1st week of December 2019, but i got no response from my text message, phone calls and voice mail. Today i sent Hardwall / Brian an email stating that this gesture that they have been giving me is unprofessional and demand a full refund on my deposit since i got nothing from Hardwall after 6 months into signing a contract with them. I am a Professional myself and expects to be treated the same way. I know Brian is a professional too and values the same respect of being called one. I am still awaiting His response and is hoping to be treated with respect as all Clients are supposed to be treated fairly, I will update my review once i got a favorable response from Hardwall Outdoor Living & Brian.

the service we got from hardwall was amazing, Brian was veryprofessional and he understood our concept design that we wanted and did an extrodanry job creating it. We would deffently hire him again.

Gave a $5000 deposit in May with a loose time frame of end of June work was to take a week. At the beginning of June, Brian came back with equipment to play with the slope to firm up ideas - asked for another $10,000. Still hadn't shown up by mid-August - claiming wet weather although our lot had been dry for weeks - the soil that he had played with had washed away shortly after he moved it and the developer had to come eventually to correct as it was running into storm pond behind us with periodic rain. Brian stopped answering phone, didn't respond to voicemails or emails. Finally physically tracked him down driving to another job and demanded a full refund. He gave it grudgingly and demanded his company sign back. Wow. If you don't mind handing over a 50% down payment, are okay with the project happening any time within the next few years, and don't mind being lied to, then this company might be worth a shot. Worst part is my husband is terminally ill and Brian was aware he probably only has a few years to enjoy the yard. A whole summer wasted on this guy. Good luck to anyone who tries him out. Project not even started never mind completed so project completion date was put in to satisfy data entry requirements for this review to be published. Avoid this guy at all cost.

We hired Hardwall Outdoor Living in the spring for a summer project in our backyard. We needed our chain link fence replaced, to extend our patio, replace our stairs, and to replace some sod. We were told the job would take 3-4 days. When we paid our deposit, we were told we were slotted in for the third week of July. On July 22 the crew came and started the job. They removed our dog run, as agreed, removed our back fence which was supposed to be replaced, and removed out existing stairs and replaced them with the stone stairs we had agreed upon, except Brain quoted us for half the amount of stones required and the stairs only covered half of our patio door. We were told we had to pay $1500 more to get the additional stones for the steps. We transferred those funds right away. We were then told they did not have a permit to drive onto the green space and needed to apply for it. We waited well over a week and they had not returned. On Aug 2nd I emailed the company asking what the plan was, as we still didnt have a fence nor a usable back yard. We were told they would be there on Tuesday, they did not show up on Tuesday however they did appear on Wednesday and they fixed the stairs. On Thursday Aug 8th I emailed again, as noone had shown up. I stated we would really like our back fence back up and also to know what the plan was for completion. I was told they do not "respond to micromanagement or demanding clientele. " Although I was simply asking what the status of our project was. We were over two weeks without a fence, and we have a dog and a young child. They crew returned on Aug 9th and did some more stone work. On that day, they left a large pile of polymeric sand on our patio, which hardened and became stuck to our stones. They crew did not return again after August 9th. We texted several times the week of the 12th and did not get a reply. On Aug 19th we called and spoke to JIm and he said he would let us know, at 5pm on the 19th we got a text message stating the crew would come on Wed Aug 21. Wed Aug 21 the crew did not show up. My husband spoke to Jim in the office and he stated the crew was "MIA" and this wasn't the first time this had happened. He also told my husband " people think we are in the business to make people happy, we are in the business to make money" at this point, we decided to terminate Hardwalll Outdoor Living and pursue our complaint with BBB and Services Alberta. When we did speak to Brain about the pile of polymeric sand, he initially denied his company left it there, and then retracted that statement and transferred us $250 to get it cleaned. Lastly, we were just informed by out new contractor, that the stairs Hardwall outdoor living installed, do not meet code. I emailed them about this, and they did not respond. We chose this company because of their good reviews, and pictures of quality work. Sadly this left us without a backyard and bearing a very large cost since we had to hire someone else to clean up after them. Please beware before hiring this company.

After having received a couple of paving stone and backyard design estimates, we couldn’t be happier with our decision to work with Brian Pirot of Hardwall Outdoor Living. When we met in person, I knew I had found the right outdoor contractor. He talked in great length about his process and perfectionist expectations of installed product; he didn’t cut corners. He accommodated our schedule, and always answered the phone quickly or texted replies when he was busy, and provided a competitive and reasonable quote and over delivered in every aspect. He made decisions easy by walking us through the many options for outdoor pavers, calling his past clients who allowed us to visit their property to see the product in-person and installed, which helped more than just seeing his portfolio pictures. Brian also provided a unique outdoor lighting kit that allowed us to test out different lighting options (with a battery for flexibility) in order to help create the desired ambiance for our patio at night. We now have a beautiful outdoor living space that rain or shine, day or night, has become a beautiful extension of our home and entertaining area. I would not hesitate to recommend Brian and Hardwall Outdoor Living and I will keep his information in my address book of trusted resources for the future.

He has very reliable and does an honest good job. Definitely know what he is doing and very easy to work with.

I love the patio that Hardwall created for me! The company was very good in communicating with me. They took extra steps to ensure the community property of the condo association was not damaged while creating my patio. Brian had several suggestions for the work that could be done and then let me chose what best suited my lifestyle and budget. They are a very professional company and I would hire them again.

Brian had some good ideas that built on what we desired to modify our deck so we could use it more in direct sunlight and add a patio. Start time was very close to the estimated start time and number of days that was estimated to do the job was correct (but two rain days stopped work so extended the finish date). The crew was very friendly and cooperative, they kept us informed of progress and plans. We are very happy with the new back yard living space.

Recently Brian’s team finished our Mega-Libre patio. From beginning to the end, Brian has showed his professionalism. I was amazed by his operating skill on the Excavator. We have wires, cables and sprinklers underground. None was damaged. Every day they cleaned up before leaving. I was surprised he put the sod to repair the damage grass around the edge without extra charges. The project cost was reasonable and the final invoice was exactly the same as the original quote. We would definitely hire Hardwall Outdoor Living again and recommend it to others. Brian, himself is very nice person. He was very patient to my questions and returned my call if he missed it. Thank you Brian for the hard work! We like the patio very much, cannot wait to install a gazebo on it.
