Dames is a full service Structural Engineering and Architectural Design firm led by Elizabeth Springer, PE. Our mission at Dames is to provide high quality design through a collaborative design process with integrity and due diligence to meet the sophisticated needs of our clients. Dames is known extensively for its work in residential projects including: new home designs, historical renovations, remodeling, and row homes. Our notable commercial work includes: structural and design support for Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary, The West Hill School, Swarthmore Nursery School, and local historic remodels such as Whitby Hall on the Haverford Heritage Trail and an Elfreth’s Alley row home remodel. Liz Springer helped us with a complete renovation of our split level home in late 2016/early 2017. This was a full renovation that touched every room of the house and added an entirely new level so that our house now looks like a colonial rather than a split level. From the beginning of the process, Liz was incredibly easy to work with. We made a lot of changes along the way, but Liz made sure we were 100% comfortable with the finished product. She worked very well with our builder, made many site visits along the way, and was very thorough. We could not be happier with the finished product!!

We are so pleased with our project. We completely renovated our first floor, kitchen and added a mudroom and 2nd floor addition to our master bed and bath. Our was a non-descript center hall colonial that felt so-so about, and we love it and are so happy we stayed and renovated. Liz was easy to work with and understood our concerns about making the design functional as well as beautiful. We have two kids and Liz put a lot of thought into how we could make the space more family friendly and had clever solutions for hiding the kids school and sports gear. Highly recommend Liz and her team!

Exceptional oversight of a whole-house remodel including both interior and exterior hardscape design. Creative approach to design with engineering focus - especially important with older-house remodels. Provided input throughout entire project and coordinated with general contractor. Was instrumental in anticipating structural issues with older home and planning appropriate contingencies.

Elizabeth Springer helped me design a complete home renovation in 2010, and I am looking forward to working with Elizabeth Springer again on a new project this year. Elizabeth listens to my ideas and also has great ideas to share. Hiring Dames Design gives me the peace of mind of Elizabeth's expertise, professionalism, courtesy, and creativity. Liz Springer is wonderful. Liz met with us to design our renovation and addition. In the beginning phase, she really listened to what we wanted and how we wanted to use the space and created a wonderful blueprint for our reno/addition. She continue to work with us until we were 100% happy with the design. Throughout the construction phase, she met with us and our contractor multiple times to ensure that everything was carried out according to plan and to our liking. I have had multiple compliments from people about our renovation, stating that you can't tell where the old house ends and the new addition begins. My father, who is a contractor, highly praised her work!

We used Dames Design to design a high end lower level for our house which included stone walls, 4 rooms and a large built in bar area. Liz was amazing to work with. She really took her time in understanding exactly how we planned to use the space and how our family lives to make sure that the end result was not only aesthetic, but also fully functional for the way we wanted to use the space. She recommended a number of contractors for us to talk to and we ended up working with one of them. We were very pleased with the whole experience and would absolutely use Dames Design again for any project.

We first began working with Elizabeth Springer, owner of Dames Design in approximately September 2012. We sought out her structural engineering skills to reinforce two pillars in our basement that were built to support the extra weight in our new kitchen and mudroom, she also detailed a drawing and instructions for a steel beam to support a two story bump out. After more than proving her capabilities and meticulous eye for detail we asked Elizabeth to design our long awaited three car garage and roof terrace. Elizabeth worked with us every step of the way keeping us informed and tweaking our drawings when necessary. She works extremely well with other building contractors in a construction setting in what is predominately a male dominated occupation. We give Elizabeth a full five stars for her excellent detailed architectural drawings, superior knowledge and consistent communication and would highly recommend her to anyone intending on beginning any project large or small!
