Ben Trogdon Architects is a residential design practice founded on the belief that each project presents a unique combination of characteristics contributed by the client and by the project's specific location. We strive to design buildings that respond to and enhance both the man-made and natural environments. Our projects are diverse. They range from custom homes and major remodels to small additions and special pieces of furniture. We offer advice on color, lighting, and finish materials. There is no typical project in terms of size or complexity. Rather, our projects are characterized by the use of indigenous materials, sensitivity to natural light, and a respect for existing environmental conditions. Our strategy is exceptional communication with our clients. We believe listening is everything. We ask insightful questions. We get to know your needs and hopes and we adopt them as our own. We continue listening; we keep asking. And we strive to respond - with imagination, discipline and spirit.

We purchased a small mid-century house that needed a make over. Our contractor recommended we get an architect. Ben and his staff were great! Working with us to find out what we wanted; designing an addition that's amazing and a new layout for the original house that better fits our needs. Ben made getting our building permits easy and now that construction has begun he has been great working with our contractor. We can highly recommend Ben and his team for any size design need.

We've worked with Ben to slowly bring our 1970s ranch into the 21st century, first with a remodel that transformed our small and chopped up living/kitchen areas into a gracious and open live-eat-work space and, many years later to add office, master and roof-deck space to accommodate a growing family. Both projects came with a tight budget and the latter with vexing site constraints. What he delivered? 1. Thoughtful and creative problem solving. 2. A patient, collaborative and informed process: he listens, responds and clearly and sensitively explains the whys, hows and implications of decisions. 3. Unexpected delight, in the form of spatial arrangement, material application and smart details. 4. Thorough and precise documentation. If you don't appreciate this now, you will when it comes to the inevitable questions and challenges that arise during permitting and construction. 5. Beautiful, livable results. In other words, Ben delivers on all fronts. Plus he's fun and easy to work with!

Ben Trogdon designed our Seattle home in 2002 and interpreted our desires with a stunning traditional Cape Cod home. He developed the understanding he needed to match our family needs with a thoughtful interpretation of that style of home. Eighteen years later our children are grown and we have asked Ben once again to design a new home for us meeting different times and interests. Blending traditional and contemporary into a new home was not an easy task but Ben has hit the mark again as we anticipate starting of construction. As a builder I think I have an even greater appreciation for the work that Ben and his team do. For the most important builds in our life we selected Ben Trogdon Architects a second time and would do so yet again.

Ben Trogdon Architects can take a difficult building concept and create a plan that is beautifully crafted while honoring the surrounding landscape. And very importantly, Ben Trogdon and his team listen closely to client needs, providing functional feedback to help lower cost and meet code, while sharing in the enthusiasm of their client's dream.

Ben and his team are wonderful to work with and did an amazing job of renovating my 1925 craftsman. He redesigned the floor plan on all three floors, created a new 100% larger kitchen, two new bathrooms, and left only the front wall with 1925 stained glass untouched. Sixteen years later and we love all the changes. Ben is a master at redesigning spaces and has a beautiful aesthetic, all that combined with great business savvy (especially on what adds value to your home). I can't wait to hire him again!

Our relationship with Ben Trogdon Architects began over a decade ago with the Leschi Residence. We were charged with engineering and handcrafting an entire window and door package including european style pivot windows and french sliding doors. Ben is a prominent Seattle architect dedicated to good design, customer service and sustainable practice. We highly recommend this firm.

Ben Trogdon is a very professional and skilled architect. He has great attention to detail and is sharp, well organized and well versed in the process of guiding a client through construction. A large whole house project we worked on with Ben was originally designed by a locally noted architect. Ben seamlessly worked the new design elements into the old and at the same time made everything seem fresh and exciting.

Ben designed the complete remodel of our four bedroom house and assisted with the construction phase. His ability to bring our needs and wants together into a cohesive design scheme exceeded our expecations. The details of the design really made the overall look and feel of the remodel "pop", turning our 1970's vintage house into an up to date modern northwest home. Ben made the design process fun and enjoyable, as it should be when creating your dream home.
