I have lived through home construction off and on my entire life so I can vouch that it is one of the most stressful endeavors one can willingly put oneself through. This time, my family is in the midst of our biggest project to date--turning our rancher into a two-story Craftsman. Like pregnancy, it's a long haul that is fraught with concerns, stressors, and fear that you're doing everything wrong. I'm so pleased to say that BMF Construction owner Derald Norton has quelled so many of these stressors for us, and it's amazing how many unforeseen ones there are in a project this extensive. Derald is a patient, intelligent craftsman who builds a house as if it were his own. I've worked with construction hacks who lure you into the cheaper bid only to wallop you with poor work, inferior materials, and/or an I-don't-care-much mentality. Not Derald! He mulls issues over carefully and comes up with innovative solutions that sometimes cost us less than we budgeted. He's incredibly respectful of our budget when recommending ideas, and when costs do run higher, he is always transparent and provides a pros and cons list to make sure we make informed decisions. Derald takes on so much of the worrying and problem solving for us, often before we are even aware that there may be a concern coming up. We joke with him that he is our guru, our therapist, our Yoda. I have highly recommended Derald and his team to my friends and neighbors, all of whom ask because they see the crew's professionalism and quality craftsmanship as they walk past our house. Just this week someone asked if I'd do it all over again, given the time, money and energy that's gone into this project. I told him, "Of course. It's like giving birth; it hurts but in the end you've got your beautiful baby to enjoy." The truth is, it helps when you've got a good team of doctors making it as smooth as process as possible.

We hired Derald Norton of BMF Construction as the general contractor for our major home remodel, and could not be happier about the decision. The house looks fantastic, and with the project on the verge of completion, we feel as good about Derald as we did at the outset. Derald's bid was by no means the lowest we received for our project, but with Derald, you get what you pay for: attention to detail, pride in his workmanship, top notch design sense, ability to anticipate problems and solve them skillfully and reassuringly, and excellent communication. He is also fair, responsive, honest and flexible, which are invaluable qualities in a general contractor. You can't go wrong with Derald.

BMF did a major renovation on our first floor a few years ago and did an excellent job. They were efficient and professional throughout, and communicated well during the project. When anything unexpected came up (there are always unexpected things in a reno!) they immediately explained the issue and presented several clear options. Their workmanship was excellent, and even years later the project has help up very well. They also stayed within the quoted budget. Highly recommended!
