We hired Bernie on the recommendation of a mutual friend and designer. Bernie was easy to work with, attentive, and listened constructively to all our ideas, then provided advice and guidance on the initial designs for our multipurpose room addition to connect our house with an existing detached garage. Limited as we were by the existing structures, the design and layout were more complicated than most. None-the-less, Bernie was able to incorporate all of our wish-list to create a functional and beautiful space. He worked closely with our contractor throughout, and the project was done on budget and with a minimum of delay. We would not hesitate to recommend him.

We worked with BBKern Designs to create our mountain retirement home. Bernie was extremely helpful and insightful in translating our want and needs into concrete plans that were in line with our budget. He listened to our ideas, incorporating them, and often improving them in the design. He is personable and easy to work with. We would recommend him highly as a home designer.

We were referred to Bernie Kern by a general contractor when we were looking to have plans drawn up for a porch addition to our home. Although we didn't hire that GC, we did hire Bernie and found him to be professional, personable and responsive. He answered our questions, worked with our general contractor of choice, made adjustments as needed, delivered plans as agreed, and provided reliable information and guidance regarding expectations for scheduling. Bernie was an absolute pleasure to work with. I didn't know that much about designing a new home and he was patient and extremely helpful throughout the process. Bernie designed a sunroom/studio addition for my house. His design completely changed the look of my house adding features found in newer homes.. He incorporated elements of the existing house, like wood beams and floors, to make it seem that the addition was part of the original house. Bernie was a pleasure to work with and had many suggestion of things that could be changed. He explained why he chose to do certain design changes and listened to my ideas. I am very happy with my addition, it is way beyond anything I could have imagined.

Having a professional designer on our team is critical. Being able to take the concepts discussed and convert them to paper to go thru the Design-Build process is a must. We have used BBKern Designs for several projects and we have a great relationship between Design, Client and Builder. Together the team meets the needs of the owner's project. He works well with drawing changes and produces a product that moves swiftly through the building plan review and building permit process.
