1 AD Studio, LLC's mission statement is to create spaces that will be fully used, loved and replicated. It should be flexible, multi use, made with durable materials and fully adaptable to the people who are using the space (or visiting!). We are a firm looking to build long term relationships with our clients. A relationship that will take you through all of life's changes. We help clients assess their existing space and keep what they love. Recreate the spaces they don't use and add the spaces they need. The space you need may be a basement unit apartment (ADU) or back yard cottage (DADU). It may be a bigger kitchen or updated bathroom. We can help you plan, design and permit and hook you up with the right contractor! We are a multi-disciplinary design firm specializing kitchen, bath and basement remodels and back yard cottage with a love of landscape design! The owner is also an ADU and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist who enjoys the unique challenge of personalizing a space beyond the standard issue solutions. We include a exterior and neighborhood analysis to get the overall picture to see if aging-in-place in your current home is right for you! Documenting your design with Floor Plans, Elevations, material selections and specifications BEFORE you start a project will give you a much less stressful remodel experience and your contractor will love you for it! Val is an amazing and patient designer. She was pleasant, fun, and FLEXIBLE! My partner and I had started a remodel discussion 2 years prior to finding Val and both of us had differing opinions (and fear$) on what our tiny galley kitchen could become if we removed a wall and opened it up. Val came in and listened to both of our wishes and concerns. She took all the measurements and came back with initial renderings that included both of our ideas. After a few tweaks, we had the plan for our perfect kitchen. She provided us with a budget checklist to keep us on track and walked us through selecting the right counter-tops with our southern facing window, back-splash tiling & grout, the best flooring for a household with pets, and the right shade of white to go along with everything we had selected. She set us up for success. During our contractor selection, they all commented on how detailed and precise her renderings were, which according to our selected contractor, was rare in their experience. They even wanted the hook-up with Val! We can't recommend her enough. She did so much for us and we are forever grateful! Thanks Val!

I will highly recommend this professional. She is very competent, knowledgable and efficient. She met every deadline that we had. She was easy to communicate with, always responding to phone call and emails. She also has a great personality, warm and friendly, which is crucial when you spend so much time working together on a project. She was there for me at every stage of the project.

My 1940's basement was "complicated" to say the least. There were wires where water should be and vice versa, venting ducts all over the place - I had roughly 900 square feet of unused space. Before the contractor agreed to tackle anything - I needed a designer to organize the space and be certain we were up to code! Not only did Val plan the space for better utilization, she did it beautifully. It was no easy feat! I appreciate the time she took with me to determine how best to use the space and the options she provided!

Val was recommended to us by a friend. We were on a tight timeline and she was able to accommodate our schedule without compromising details. Very responsive when contractors had follow up questions. Will hire Val for future projects for sure.

I was a bit nervous about my kitchen remodel since it was my first major home improvement project and Val walked me through a step by step process of what to expect which really put me at ease. She was very professional from day 1, always on time with plans and documents and very flexible with setting meeting times. She encouraged me to be "open" to various plans that she presented yet at the same time was very willing to listen to me and was not at all offended when I preferred my (few) ideas over hers. I thought she was very honest with her opinions and always gave me a reason as to why. I hope to do another remodel project in 2 years and I would definitely work with Val again on that project.

Val Sporleder at 1 AD Studio has been terrific to work with on our kitchen remodel. She is very good at being able to visualize and explain multiple options for a given space in real-time to help you figure out what you really want. She encouraged us to think outside our preconceived notions to make sure we are maximizing the remodel effort. She is very technically adept with her CAD drawings which really speeds up the time it takes to go from idea to a plan. She takes great care in getting exact measurements of your existing space at the outset of working with her to help ensure any ideas that get committed to paper or CAD are drawn to scale and reflect reality. On top of her design skills she is prompt with communications, completes her work when she says she will and is a pleasure to work with.

Our home is on an acre lot with an odd triangular shape, with the longest side (and nicest views) to the north. Since we moved in six years ago, we have been making incremental changes to fit the property to our lifestyle, which involves 3 kids and 5 dogs. However, we lacked a compelling vision that would bring it all together, so we asked Val for ideas. What she came up with was a revelation to us! Her proposals and sketches showed us how to organize the zones of our property (interior and exterior) to improve the flow of daily life, as well as better enjoy the natural features of the land and house. It all makes tremendous sense now, but we hadn't come close to her ideas in six years of working on it. Now we know where to put the kids' playset, the garden, the dog run, the outdoor kitchen, etc. and rework the kitchen and living room for flow, light and views. We're going to get there in stages, but really looking forward to it now we have a coherent goal. Thanks, Val, you're awesome!

Val created a lovely, livable complete backyard design for me. It was a pleasure to work with her from start to finish. I live on an island and the logistics of that did not deter her in the least. She was timely in getting drafts back to me, taking my thoughts into consideration for the design and great at overall communication. I felt she did a great job of balancing her recommendations with elements I wanted to be sure were included. I can't wait to get it all installed and start really using the backyard as a kids, friends and family gathering place!
