Floor has dark gray 12" x 24" tile on Schluter heated floor and same tile on tub wall surround with wall niche. Shower, tub and vanity plumbing fixtures and accessories are Delta Champagne Bronze. Vanity is custom built with quartz countertop and backsplash, undermount oval sinks, wall mounted faucets, wood framed mirrors and open wall medicine cabinet.

Saikley ArchitectsDown-to-studs remodel and second floor addition. The original house was a simple plain ranch house with a layout that didn’t function well for the family. We changed the house to a contemporary Mediterranean with an eclectic mix of details. Space was limited by City Planning requirements so an important aspect of the design was to optimize every bit of space, both inside and outside. The living space extends out to functional places in the back and front yards: a private shaded back yard and a sunny seating area in the front yard off the kitchen where neighbors can easily mingle with the family. A Japanese bath off the master bedroom upstairs overlooks a private roof deck which is screened from neighbors’ views by a trellis with plants growing from planter boxes and with lanterns hanging from a trellis above.

Simply Baths & KitchensFor those that are above-average in height, standard bathroom fixtures can be difficult to truly enjoy. For this homeowner a soaking tub with a water depth that would be near his shoulders was top priority. The solution was a square Japanese-style soaking tub with a built-in seat. The stepped details add function and also cascading interest to the space, with steps to enter the tub and a shower bench seat. This large master bathroom is also outfitted with loads of cabinetry for both him and her. However, the best feature of this room is the traditional detailing brought in by the tile pattern. The neutral, travertine-look tile is elevated to new heights by varying the sizing and installation and adding in delicate metallic accents.

Design, Inc.Upon moving to a new home, this couple chose to convert two small guest baths into one large luxurious space including a Japanese soaking tub and custom glass shower with rainfall spout. Two floating vanities in a walnut finish topped with composite countertops and integrated sinks flank each wall. Due to the pitched walls, Barbara worked with both an industrial designer and mirror manufacturer to design special clips to mount the vanity mirrors, creating a unique and modern solution in a challenging space.
The mix of travertine floor tiles with glossy cream wainscotting tiles creates a warm and inviting feel in this bathroom. Glass fronted shelving built into the eaves offers extra storage for towels and accessories. A oil-rubbed bronze finish lantern hangs from the dramatic ceiling while matching finish sconces add task lighting to the vanity areas.

A custom deck with custom railing was built to house the large Japanese soaker bath. The tub deck and countertops are a dramatic granite which compliments the cherry cabinetry and stone vessels.
Howells Architecture + DesignA poky upstairs layout becomes a spacious master suite, complete with a Japanese soaking tub to warm up in the long, wet months of the Pacific Northwest. The master bath now contains a central space for the vanity, a “wet room” with shower and an "ofuro" soaking tub, and a private toilet room.
