Look to warm hues for that snuggle-friendly feeling

In this second installment of our series on using color to achieve the optimal ambience in your bedroom, we take a look at how to create a cozy vibe. According to a recent Houzz survey, cozy is the second-most desired atmosphere for a master bedroom, after calming. Take a look at four hues guaranteed to transform your bedroom into a sanctuary of cozy.
If you’re looking for a calming atmosphere in your bedroom, I recommend cooler colors such as grays, blues, greens and lavenders. But if it’s a cozy feeling you’re after, you’ll want to turn to colors on the warmer end of the spectrum, namely browns, reds, oranges and yellows.
1. Rich reddish brown. To me, this is the color of cozy. It’s deep and dark and has just enough spicy red in it to warm it nicely. It’s a fantastic backdrop to copper accents, which are all the rage these days.

This reddish-brown hue is a rather dark shade, so it works best as an accent color in a room. Paint one wall or your ceiling with it and then keep the remaining colors in the palette soft, light and neutral. Of course, the more natural light you get in the space the more of this deep hue you can use without the room feeling too cavelike.

2. Mellow yellow. Darker colors tend to make a space feel smaller and therefore cozier, but you can get a cozy vibe with lighter colors too. Soft yellow hues are warm and inviting without making the space seem too snug. In fact, a light, sunny hue such as this one helps make a room feel open. But the warmth of the color is definitely conducive to getting cozy.
Here’s an even softer yellow that makes a fantastic backdrop for the other warm colors in the space, as well as the dark wood elements throughout. This is a nice, relatively light palette that will give you warmth and a cozy vibe on a cold winter’s eve.
Try these yellow paint colors: Glisten Yellow from Sherwin-Williams or Jasper Yellow from Benjamin Moore

3. Deep burgundy. I say you can’t go wrong decorating with red wine hues, especially in spaces where a comforting and inviting vibe is desired. Like reddish brown, this is a deep, dark hue that will make a bedroom feel more intimate and cozy.
Warm colors tend to visually advance, as do darker colors, so they can make a room appear smaller than it is. A deep, dark burgundy such as this would be tough to pull off on all four walls without the space becoming a bit claustrophobic. But a burgundy accent wall brings in all the drama without the downside. And, of course, painting your ceiling burgundy would help visually lower it, making the space super snuggly.

4. Soft gold. If you’re looking for a light neutral that will give you a cozy vibe, skip the white and go for a light gold. This soft yellow-orange hybrid adds warmth without the heavy weight of a darker hue.
Soft gold makes a handsome pairing with wood elements. And because it’s such a light color, you can use it on all four walls and your ceiling — it will make the space appear open and expansive. For a small dash of drama, add some accents in a vibrant color such as cranberry red.
