Cat is very knowledgeable and easy to work with. The plan she provided to me was comprehensive. There's a page for each plant she includes in the plan which I find extremely helpful.

I found Cat Valand on google as I was desperately looking for someone to help me with our aging yard that was out of control. Cat so graciously took my email and responded since I was not in her immediate area, she was so dear to be willing to travel and walk through my property. Cat, took everything that I wanted and didn't know I wanted and made the most immaculate design. I can hardly wait to be able to have pictures to add to this review. Cat's attention to detail was out of this world, from making sure we had the proper plants from deer, sun, etc. I could not have been happier. Time to get to work! We hired Cat to create a design for our property, which had only basic plantings from the builder. Her work was truly outstanding. Cat has an encyclopedic knowledge of plants and how they grow together. She is passionate about building sustainable, liveable outdoor spaces and works with you to design what you want and can maintain. She creates a detailed site plan and accompanying binder that shows you every plant she recommends, where it goes, and how big it will get. This helps you picture how everything (plants and hardscape) fits together. You can decide how to tackle the project, whether in phases or all at once. Cat recommends professionals you can use, but she also provides you with everything you need to undertake the project by yourself if you prefer. The plan she gives you is remarkable, and it reflects your ambitions for your property. It was a joy working with Cat. If you are looking for someone to help you think about a plan for your property, she would be a marvelous choice!

Can’t say enough about Cat’s professionalism and talent. She listened closely to our wants and needs and quickly came up with a beautiful plan for our back yard. We had a number of problem areas and she knew how to handle every one of them. Her design came with a 3-ring binder full of information on each plant we will be using, links to favorite nurseries, plus contacts for lighting, fencing, and other hardscaping. She also put us in touch with a terrific landscaper to do the work for us. I will add photos here when the project is complete, if I can. Cat is a delightful person, who obviously loves her work, and I don’t hesitate to recommend her. You won’t be disappointed!

Cat worked with my wife and I to develop an amazing plan for the flipped mid century home we moved in to about 2 years ago. Her plans incorporated our wishes with new and existing plantings as well as a deck redesign and patio refresh. Cat gave us plans that worked with existing aspects of our unusual lot and offered quality referrals to potential companies for us to implement her plans. We were thoroughly impressed with Cat's ability to envision and design our landscape with a plan we loved, but would never have come up with on our own.

We hired Cat to develop a landscape plan for our home, and could not be happier with what she delivered. We gave her minimal direction, answered the few up front questions she asked us during her initial site visit and then let her do her thing. We were blown away by what she gave us. The plan was thoughtful, artistic and perfectly suited to our unique home site. She put everything together in less time than she quoted in her verbal estimate, and sat down with us to review that same week. She brought a full binder of plant descriptions/pictures and thoroughly reviewed every inch of the plan with us to ensure we were on board with the "vision". Many of her proposed plantings have options or alternates, which gives us some flexibility and choice in crafting the final aesthetic. She also provided several recommendations for landscape contractors to execute the plan, at once or in phases. Landscape, hardscape and lighting, we got the whole package. All that said, both of us could not be more pleased. Cat was professional, genuine, friendly and just an absolute delight to work with. Her work product is old school and it is exceptional. If you are looking for the best, I don't know if you could do better than her.

She then translated them into the beautiful landscape that I never could have dreamt up! She's very communicative, engaging to work with and her passion for people and creating spaces that engage the client provided us with an amazing design! I highly recommend Cat Valand Landscape Design! We are homeowners who care about property value, curb appeal, aesthetics, etc, but we have no time to even think about it. So we decided to hire an expert. Cat knows every plant, every flower, planting guidelines, layout options, fertilizing, you name it! Cat gave us exactly what we were looking for -- a thoughtful plan for landscaping our front and back yard. I learned more in 5 minutes with her than I did with days spent with other landscapers. She asked about our goals, then proceeded to help us solve our landscaping problems. Cat suggested removing plants that were not thriving, transplanting others to optimal locations, and made specific recommendations for a wide variety of new plants too add to our yard that would do well in the shade as well as the sun. She shared design options and hardscape suggestions. THEN, she created a beautiful blueprint of our yard and showed us exactly what to do and where to do it. All we have to do is share the design with a contractor and he will execute the plan. In summary, I recommend Cat because she's smart, knowledgeable, experienced, easy to talk to, accessible, and works quickly rather than dragging out the process like others I've worked with. She also is meticulous on the detailed plan, which we greatly appreciated.

I can’t say enough about Cat Valand! She is wonderful to work with! We had an absolutely blank Canvas after renovating our home and she has worked her magic. From beautiful florals and trees down to the lighting and special touches, fairy gardens, tree faces, etc.. She is worth every penny!

We highly recommend Cat! She was a pleasure to work with, and her work was beautifully and thoroughly executed. We have a less traditional front yard (our home is at the top of a hill and our “front” yard is actually at the back of our house), and we had no clue what we wanted to do with our less traditional space. We just knew we wanted it to be both beautiful and low-maintenance. We really needed Cat’s vision, and she certainly delivered. She came to our home, spent time learning about what we were hoping to accomplish with our landscaping project, and then she was incredibly thorough when we reviewed her plan with us. Her work surpassed our expectations, and we are very excited to see it come to life over the coming months. Cat was also super helpful in connecting us with the right people who she recommended we work with. We highly recommend Cat, and while we hope to be in our current home (enjoying Cat’s vision :) for a long time, if we ever take on another project in Raleigh, we’ll definitely call Cat!

My property was truly a blank canvas when I bought it and I was clueless about where to even start. When Cat Valand and I met for the first time I told her I wanted to create a place that I can have peace in my retirement years and where I can enjoy gardening. We discussed the kind of plantings I wanted and, very importantly, what I did not want. I wanted to do much of the work myself but I needed a detailed plan to use while developing my property. Cat is an excellent listener and when we met to review her plans I was blown away by the detail, including businesses I can contact for the work I will not be able to do myself, such as building a deck. Cat had such great ideas about how to make my future deck much more functional. I had never thought of some of the suggestions she made for my landscape and I am so happy to work with her. I now have a detailed plan for developing my place of peace that I have worked so hard for.
