8. Architectural details for cabinetry. In this kitchen you'll see legs on the sink-wall base cabinets in addition to an architectural surround that really draws your eye to that focal point. You may also note that the sink's base cabinets are a different depth than the cabinets on either side — these undulating depths add visual interest. Traditional kitchens employ details like legs and pilasters on islands, furniture-style toe kicks that make the cabinets look like they're freestanding, and custom wood hood surrounds that sometimes look like fireplace surrounds. All of these details layer on top of one other to make a traditional kitchen go the full distance.
Reconfigure a closet. If your kitchen plans don’t include space for a new walk-in pantry, you might consider repurposing a nearby closet to act as your pantry. Add shelves — or, even better, roll-outs — to the interior of the closet. Also consider adding a new door with glass, as shown, to delineate the new pantry from other closets.Find kitchen storage and organizersfrosted glass pantry door
Spice storage, pots and pans, and cooking utensils placed immediately around cooking equipment ensure convenient and intuitive access to the tools and staples you need in meal preparation. Personal preference determines whether you want to place these items in upper shelves or cabinets, as in the previous photo, or in drawers and pullout cabinets that are below eye level, as shown here. Either can work, so decide what is best for you and conforms to your design aesthetic.Find cabinet pros in your area
Most people store drinking glasses in wall cabinets near the sink and dishwasher, which works well, but drawers designed to hold glassware offer another solution and can make access more convenient. In any case, maintain a location convenient to the sink and dishwasher for your glassware and everyday dishes.
2. The Sink Center The sink center should be between the refrigerator and the range center, or cooking area, for maximum efficiency. Since sinks get the most use and traffic of any spot in the kitchen, centrally located sinks and dishwashers work best. Plan to have the most uncluttered countertop space in the sink center. The area in and around sinks is used for food-preparation tasks involving cleaning and cutting, as well as washing and cleaning up after meals. Place trash and recycling containers strategically so that tidy disposal happens effortlessly.Storage at sink centers includes places for everyday flatware, dishes and glassware, as well as activities involving waste management, dishtowel placement and storage, cleaning supplies, polishing and drying.
3. Pantry PerfectThis custom double pantry — 4 feet wide, 7 feet high and 2 feet deep — with drawers and pullout baskets is the stuff kitchen dreams are made of. Imagine how free and clear your countertops would be with everything tucked so nicely away. Paint color: Purbeck Stone by Farrow & Ball

As if the kitchen’s ample storage weren’t enough, the design team made sure to give the family what Campbell calls the ultimate pantry. Just off the kitchen near the island’s cookbook bookcase, the pantry may be the homeowners’ favorite feature of their kitchen — even if it’s not technically inside the kitchen. French doors with mirrored panels give the oversize pantry an elegance that masks its purpose of storing food, extra dishes and platters.disguised pantry just OUTSIDE OF KITCHEN
Undersink storage. Another storage opportunity is the typically unusable area directly under the sink. Instead of putting a false panel on the front, consider installing a tip-out tray where brushes and sponges can be placed when not in use.
