Farmhouse Landscaping Sample book.
For meadow - note high grasses of different textures and offering different colors.
Beautiful texture for intermediate grass.
Be nice to incorporate area like this -- shaded cluster of trees that can provide getaway nook. It's a big property and we’d like to use more than just area above ridge.
Low non-deciduous plantings delineating curve of driveway - need this or something like picket rail fence. Also probably need lighting.
Note how trees frame entrance to curving driveway. Need either easily maintained bushes, stakes, or fence along southern side of driveway to delineate it in snow.
Use of high grass along curving uphill driveway. Don't want to have to mow, though, as here.
sample approach up driveway around house - shorter, non-deciduous trees offering shade and visual interest
Sample view from western porch. Note generally open vista broken up at different depths.
Sample front (western) porch. Ideally plantings would be easily maintained and repel bugs.
Play field - relatively level, useable for sports, dog(s), easily mowed, retaining options for other uses (garden, horses, studio). Need inexpensive, farm-style fence that can keep deer out, dogs in.
Nice look for fenced playing field along back. Relatively level, with some trees to break up and offer shade.
Sample pool. Note high grass/ hydrangeas at border, clean rectangular shape, seating only on one side, and fencing that doesn't impede eastern view. Patio surface easily maintained, foot friction, but clean and simple (though rustic look also good). Want to have enough room either behind (west) or off deep end for possible pergola.
Sample view from pool. Note trees at different depths. Do NOT want trees this close to pool unless they're evergreen, and don't want anything to block view.
Hydrangeas to buffer pool without sacrificing eastern view. Note - no trees whose leaves would need to be cleaned out of pool. Also note extended surface only one one side, facing eastern view. We suggest hydrangeas because relatively low maintenance; airy, soft, colorful qualities.
Sample fire pit. Does not need the rounded wall. Basic point is gravel cover.
Idea for area coming out of basement french doors. Inexpensive, easily maintained, place for hammock or morning yoga.
Simply to point out that we don't want to limit the use of the house to the area above the ridge. There should be multiple places on the property where someone can go, read a book, and enjoy the view.
