small but perfectly formed
Prime example of design that could have been so much better. Symmetry makes it static. The eye goes straight down the garden and up to the 'nicely' framed building beyond. If the steps had been built on the right hand side and the left hand raised bed extended across, two major things happen. The design becomes more interesting by having a path lead to a mystery destination and the building isn't the focal point
Diagonal flow good on a squarer plot
A bit more planting to give texture, but you're upping the 'gardening' involvement
A proper Outside Room. Collection of furniture the central focus. Needs a big outdoor chest to store the cushions. Painted fence yet again.
Borrowing neighbours hedging. Use of preached hedge at the end
Not sure about stone wall, slate capping, wood fence and old terracotta cobbles combo but Acers are the perfect specimen tree. Like the ground cover planting around its base to creat a woodland feel
Use almost any kind of shrub with lower branches cut to form tree shape
Nice paving with raised troughs dividing lounge from dining. Better when trees grow a little. Imagine a parasol
Sealed off from soil and weeds, and dampness. Good combo of concrete, decking, gravel and simple planting
Light coloured fence
The idea of leaving out slabs to make planting bays. I don't think this quite works as an entire plan though.
Maybe this is at the bottom of your garden by the shed. Grass not necessary but good balance of horizontal proportions to verticals. Light grey fencing and shed
Dappled shade but oh what a faff to mow the lawn and keep those edges just right. No chance of sitting on there when ground is soft from the rain
I would argue against the use of trellis to disguise things. It draws your attention. However this is better than a thin trellis nailed to the top of a fence. Squares not diamonds would be visually more harmonious
Wide gaps with something growing inbetween. Could use moss, camomile or herbs
Bamboo hedging
Wouldn't this look so much better with a taller shrub or tree placed to the left of next doors tree
Pleached hedge
Mirror mirror on the wall, adds light and depth
Weeping pears kept trimmed. Soft gray and light wood theme
Specimen trees to break up the fence line. Imagine without them. All you'd see would be houses beyond.
Visual flow to create 'outdoor room'. Internal walls match colour of paving
Partitions provide height and curiosity of ‘what’s around the corner’. Imagine how much smaller this garden would feel if they weren’t in place
