Bathroom
Crisp, clean lines are the name of the game in this minimalist Orange County, California, powder room by Strauss Design/Build. A white vessel sink, floating wood countertop and shelf below all form perfect horizontal lines. Black-and-white tiles on the vanity wall feature a zigzag pattern that creates visual movement. And gold wall-hung sink fixtures add a touch of glamour.
A floating marble vanity takes center stage in this stunning Chicago powder room by Centaur Interiors. LED lights along the edges of the vanity wall and the sides of the inset floor-to-ceiling mirror create an ethereal glow. A matte black faucet projects from a wall covered in abstract wallpaper that mimics the look of marble.
Thin slab wall for bathroom engineered-surface manufacturers have created thin profiles that are easier to install and can be used for applications other than kitchen countertops. One of the more popular areas of the home for these slab installations are bathroom walls. Dekton launched its Optimma shower slab collection, shown here, which features lightweight 4-millimeter precut slabs in various colors.
Tub Jetted features. We saw many pampering bathroom features highlighted this year, which we discuss in more detail below, but Toto’s new Zero Dimension bathtub certainly stood out. Product designers from Toto studied the ergonomic position of astronauts in space to come up with a tub design that mimics the feeling of weightlessness. The design allows you to rest your head on a pillow, which cascades water onto your shoulders, and position your feet and legs slightly up. Jets massage the back and legs.
Faucet Riobel’s new Reflet collection, shown here, features a wavy finish that mimics water on the underside of the spout and top of the lever handles, while the remaining areas of the faucet are smooth. The undulating surface catches light ("reflet” is French for “reflection”), creating a dynamic surface. The collection will contain faucets, tub fillers, shower components and bath accessories in four finishes: chrome, brushed nickel, brushed chrome and brushed gold, shown here. It will be available in 2021 spring.
Faucet Moen’s new Cia collection includes its first touchless lavatory faucet. Wave a hand in front of the sensor on the side to turn the water on and off. The matte black finish comes with a brass gasket for a two-tone effect.

A shower niche adds storage for bathing products without taking up too much space. But if you find most shower niches too small, there’s no reason you can’t extend them, especially vertically between the wall studs.
If wall space is limited in your bathroom, consider dropping pendant lights from the ceiling rather than trying to squeeze in sconces. The design team at City Homes added a pair of stylish pendant lights to this Minneapolis bathroom, freeing up space for a larger mirror above the floating vanity.
Blue penny tiles cover the floor and wrap up to the ceiling on the vanity wall in this powder room by Eleven Interiors in Boston. Blue baseboards further define the blue, while a custom floating stone vanity with open storage pops against the color. Globe pendant lights and an accent wallpaper featuring striated colors complete this eclectic design.
