So I was at Arhaus the other day and they seem to have some great sofa options. I have a leather sofa from there and it has been a really good sofa. Just wanted to throw that out there as Kurt will want to sit in whatever we end up with. SY: got it! We don't usually use Arhaus, but are specifying a slipcovered option from Rowe that we sat in at High Point this year and really liked. Same with the swivels at the TV. Rowe is ubiquitous - am sure we'll be able to find a place for him to sit on it.
SY: Gat Creek Sessions Table - pretty beautiful base, no? I like it more than the pedestal options. R54" x H30" Seats 4 to 8 This is a perfect size for your space on a day to day basis. Add one 18" leaf to extend table to 72" oval, which is pretty much the footprint of your current table. Available in oodles of woods and finishes. Click to see more.
SY: I'm just wondering about you maybe not wanting to buy chairs that are kind of just like the chairs you already have at the dining table, and perhaps going for something more comfortable, with an upholstered seat. We saw these at High Point a few years ago and really liked them. The wood can't be changed but the seat can. May work! I think they have a lovely line to them. Thoughts? Click through to see more images.
SY: here's Gat Creek's Lana chair - which can be done in myriad finishes, including a hand glazed black paint. Like I say, I just am not familiar with the quality of James & James' pieces or customer service. Sounds as if you are. :) SV: Unfortunately I’ve never seen in the flesh! I’m a perfect insta target. I wish there was a way to see. But Gatt looks like a good option
SV: So maybe this in entry and the other upstairs? SY: yep, you got it. I think if we do that, we are going to come in close to our allowances. We will price it out with this in foyer and Haleigh in upstairs hall and see how we align with the overall light fixture allowance. That can help you make your final decision. Sound good?
SY: we work a lot with Gat Creek - quality, American made and endless finish / customization options. I bet they'd have a round table you'd like... and we could make it extendable too which might be nice. (Photo is just an example. Click through to the website and you can browse their products. Gat Creek is one of the only wood furniture producers I trust for consistent quality.)
SY: 48" diameter is larger than your table. I'd like it to be no bigger than 36" diameter.
Poss dining room light looks like ceiling height might work. SY: sure, that could work! And save some $. We'll put it in as an option
SV Yes we have a TV there probably around that size. Cable is located in wall next to slider so probably will need to relocate around the corner so it is behind TV. Have wireless router that can sit behind TV. No cable box to worry about. I forgot the sconce ? articulating? Whatever you think works! No new window at this point
SY: Silestone (Quartz, not natural stone) Charcoal Soapstone SV: I like this ALOT as I have always liked soapstone. Could we get some samples of this and maybe a quartzite. I don't think I want alot of movement unless it's subtle. SY: let's do this (or some quartz) instead of natural stone. This is lovely (I have the sample in my studio) and easy and will be much more solid than most natural stones. The only thing is, it's got a high sq ftg price; though it would save design time looking for a natural stone slab. We'll investigate what the cost is.
SY: or we could go hunting for a natural stone, likely quartzite or granite. This is elegant black quartzite.
SY: Agatha Black Granite (for example - natural stone)
SY: so NOT this kind of thing, right? SY: whereas you could get 4 of these at your island - 17"w 15"d
SV: OMG, if its not comfortable Kurt will not be happy....So that answers the question! Always comfort SY: ok! We'll just plan on 3 stools, emphasis on comfort.
SVS: Still Love. SY: this is my front runner! Pulling it up here to see in conjunction with other suggestions. Nice family of fixtures!
SY cans OR just cap them - and bring the light down into the human space with sconces like these.
SY: I've been looking for light fixtures! Doesn't this line up look good altogether? Loving this Aspen sconce for your daybed nook instead of articulating arm fixtures. You could also put two of them on the short west wall in the loft - depending on how you want to use that space. What do you think? (Click to go to the website and see it in some different contexts.) We can also (additionally or instead of sconces on the short west loft wall) replace your track with a sleeker black one. Talk to me about that.
SY: the articulating arm option for the daybed area. It's tricky to find one with a small enough shade, but this one is 8" d x 8" h, which is good.
SY: spotted these for you in person at High Point Market this summer, and love them for over the kitchen sink area. SV: Love the look of these! SY: great! me too.
SY: Spotted this in person for you in Chicago - for vanity on either side of the mirror. SV: YES YES! Love these. I also love all the sconce options. SY: great! yay.
SVS: Still LOVE. SY: Second fav.
SY: I am just hesitant because its diameter is 44" (vs the 36" diameter of the other fixtures). We'll look in elevation to see if one seems better than the other, but my gut says you don't want a larger diameter than the table width, even in such a large space. SVS: LOVE Kurt likes this the best. . SY: larger diameter but enough hanging height. If the other two won't work, will see if this diameter is fine. https://www.build.com/product/summary/1632639?uid=3873709&jmtest=gg-gbav2_3873709&inv=1&&source=gg-gba-pla_3873709!c1710656075!a66879169156!dc!ng&gclid=CjwKCAjwlrqHBhByEiwAnLmYUKHIDxT3dlXYJshvswsJn1XbIx3dDkc6ZjU8dG_N6pRpt6bQQhgUPBoCkkcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
SR; 33" tall, 25" wide. with 4.5 feet of chain. Sv: Not wild about the crystals SY: yep, agree. This was a chandelier that a former client wants to sell, so I figure we show it to you.
SY: an option I saw in Chicago for over your dining table. :) This one is 24" - there's a large too. Aiden by Chapman & Myers. Sv: I like more of the “forged look” I think this is a good example SV: Kurt really likes this one also!

More neutral ?
Love this for stairs. SY: Agreed, so pretty!
possiblity
along the same lines. Whatever looks great without the worry of getting ruined if the dogs have an accident. I'm thinking of slip covered sofas so I can pull off the covers and wash if necessary. Probably will need your help in pulling it together. SY: Got it!
SY: ok, let's do the same thing we did for lights for rugs for the main space, ok? just your gut reactions/ what you were thinking if anything / any thoughts generally you have about floor coverings in the main space. Mind you, I know I'm not decorating the main spaces, but I am doing a floor plan and lighting, so I need something that at least points you in the right direction on the floors. :) This one is light/neutral/geometric - along the lines of Emily Henderson's in her mountain house that we are using for inspiration. But light may not be right for lots of family hanging out.
SY: washed out lighter vintage effect. SV: Like but need easy to clean because of dogs. I love the Navy one. I love Serena and Lily and have found ones I love also with Annie Selke. Maybe find a run with a runner for the stairs to tie it all together.
SY: neutral geometric tonal effect SV: I could live with any of these choices.
SY: I'd think too modern for you, but the blue and the woven cotton effect seem very casual lake house appealing to me...SV: I'd need your help to pull this together.
Along the same line as the Serena and Lily. Possible stair runner.
SY: another possible coordinating Serena & Lily option, this one Made for use indoors or in covered outdoor spaces / less expensive / Handwoven of 100% polyester fibers. Honestly there are loads of great options at Serena & Lily that I think would appeal to you and work in the context of this home.
SY: Serena and Lily. I kinda love the idea of this with the one before both in the same space. This is 100% Poly: Luxuriously soft and tufted by hand, this rug has the thickness we crave but with the forgiving nature of performance fibers. SV: love
SY: we need two rugs in the main room that coordinate. This and the next could work well... While the coastal influence is undeniable, this Morrocan-style striped rug is all about texture. Crafted from semi-twisted wool, remarkable detail goes into SV: LIKE handweaving every yarn, knot by knot. It has a nice melange effect for depth and movement, with a longer pile height that gives it that extra soft feeling underfoot.
SY: this looks as if it might appeal to you? A bit of tradition but not too fru fru for lake house, I don't think. SV: Like
SY: navy rather than black / washed out vintage effect - probably very good for not showing dirt :) SV: LOVE
SY: more contrasted black and white (this is serena & lily) SV: would need help to pull this off ...but like
SY: sisal under traditional/colorful. If you did this effect - a natural fiber under a vintage rug - in front of the fireplace - then you could easily do natural fiber mats at the front door, kitchen, and/or in secondary seating area and they'd coordinate nicely. And you could do this layered effect with most any style rug on top too.
SY: see that chain? that makes this one promising for your dining table.... What do you think of these? A bit lighter (less "strong" iron as you put it below), but iron nonetheless (or black anyway), and with a traditional effect. SV: yes, I like the next ones more
SY: just dropping this here to say THANK YOU for the lighting feedback! All very helpful to set me in the right direction! sv OMG I could never do ur job! Hopefully it was helpful...?? SY: lol, I could never do YOUR job! Good thing the world has all types, right? :) It was definitely helpful, thank you. You left a few blank - add your thoughts on those if you could please? Or were those all no's?
another cabin look
like
A little outside my box but I like this. SY: hm. ok.
like. SY: I'm thinking black... but maaaybe. There's just already a lot of wood up at your ceiling.
More of a cabin vibe?? SY: I don't actively dislike antler chandeliers, but they are trendy. Do you hunt? If you don't hunt, I'd say pass. If you do, I'm not against it, though I'm leaning black, so more inclined toward the iron looks. SV: skip the antlers :) Im lover not a fighter SY: lol
like. SY: twist on a lantern - I can work with that. Thinking for the upstairs hall. SV: Yes that might be awesome
like. SY: got it. more traditionally chandeliery.
like the strong iron look. SY: ok!
Like the traditional look. I like contemporary but not sure if I can step out of my box. SY: we can find the sweet spot! SV: yippee
better tracks SV: Are you thinking of this for upstairs? I like these. SY: yes, and maybe, if they are needed, tucked along the beam in the kitchen.
