Bathroom wall and shower cladding is a popular application for engineered quartz slabs. The product is waterproof, and its slab installation minimizes grout lines. Plus, you can create large-scale feature-wall patterns, as shown here with Wilsonart’s Wetwall line in Calacatta Statuario. Caesarstone now offers products that are only 1.3 centimeters thick for any style, making it good for shower walls or tub surrounds.
Pros and Cons of Wet Rooms
This bathroom's layout would've made fitting in a single dedicated shower difficult, but the shower was designed to serve as a walk-through to the tub. This allows the homeowner to have both a bathtub and a shower without combining both into a small space or squishing a shower into one corner and the tub into the other.
A built-in tub like this is actually much easier to install than a freestanding one. Waterproofing behind and under tubs with little wiggle room can be difficult, so I always suggest that clients install tubs like this, for practicality and cost savings. Tip: Make sure your walls are waterproofed up to a height of 6 feet in your shower and tub area's primary wet zone. Waterproof the walls at least 18 inches above the tub lip in a bathtub without a showerhead.
If this modern tub were a tub shower, it’d be pretty difficult to waterproof because it’s designed as an undermount tub. Clean-lined tubs like this usually don’t have edging that connects the tub with the wall’s waterproofing. Placing the tub inside the shower means the entire area is waterproofed, and it actually simplifies the room’s design. Tip: A typical shower’s glass door and fixed panels can cost up to $2,000. I like how this shower-tub combination has a single wall panel and no door. A simple design change like this can dramatically reduce the cost of your new bathroom.

Thin slabs. As we’ve mentioned in previous trends coverage, many engineered-surface manufacturers have created thin profiles that are easier to install and can be used for applications other than kitchen countertops. One of the more popular areas of the home for these slab installations are bathroom walls. Dekton launched its Optimma shower slab collection, shown here, which features lightweight 4-millimeter precut slabs in various colors.

Great ideas for aging in place design
Look for Textured Flooring No matter which kind of flooring you decide to put in your bathroom, choose one that has high slip resistance. A slick tile can increase the likelihood of an injury from a fall. You can spot a floor with good slip resistance by looking for grooves or feeling for texture. Generally speaking, the more textured a floor is, the higher its slip resistance. Barbara Grushow Designs Inc. There are ways to measure a floor’s slip resistance. Tile, for example, is rated by measuring the coefficient of friction. A flooring material’s slip resistance can normally be found on the manufacturer’s website.
Choose Porcelain Wall and Floor Tile Porcelain can last a lifetime, so chances are you won’t have to replace it as you get older. It’s also perhaps the easiest surface to clean. Water and a rag normally do the trick. If you’re concerned about grout, look for porcelain tile with a rectified edge. Finely cut edges allow for thin grout joints (as little as 1/16 inch in some styles). You can purchase a presealed grout as well.
After: Haltom eliminated the top right closet and moved the new shower to its place, allowing her to expand the remaining closet. The new freestanding corner tub lightens up the layout and lets the accent tile stand out. “The white of the different stones makes this bathroom tranquil and spa-like, and also light and airy,” Haltom says. “It’s definitely a statement room in the house. When [the homeowner] has guests, she brings them inside to show it off. It’s a private retreat, but also one of her favorite rooms in the house.”
The mosaic marble petal floor tiles replicate the floral design on the bathroom walls. The project’s tile contractor removed some petal tiles from their mesh backing and applied them to a metal drain cover for a decorative look. Porcelain panels also cover the built-in bench. “We decided to angle the base instead of straight up and down,” Haltom says. “It’s something we never did before, and it turned out great.” Haltom placed the operable window in the shower high for privacy.
The shower has a curbless, doorless, floor-to-ceiling opening. The walls are 10-foot-tall porcelain panels. The hand shower and two wall-mounted shower heads are polished nickel. “The shower is enormous, about 6 by 6½ feet, so splashing water isn’t an issue,” Haltom says.
The countertops are a solid-surface material called Krion, fabricated to include the two integrated trough sinks.

Everyone likes a shower after a day on the lake. Even the doggie guests. A dog shower was thoughtfully included in the laundry room for mans best friend. An elevated shower base saves your back too. This would work, using nicer looking materials. "elevated shower base"

“The seat in the shower tucked under the main shower head was incorporated for accessibility and ease of use, while providing function where previously there wouldn’t have been any, as shower seats are not usually placed beneath the main shower head,” designer Andrew Dahlstedt says.

Few things open up a bathroom like glass walls and doors. But keep in mind that shower glass requires upkeep. You need to squeegee it regularly to avoid streak marks. This may make it less convenient for a bathroom designed for aging in place.
