In this home, the front door opens immediately to the living room, but a freestanding folding screen offers slight separation between the areas. In addition to saving money on a costly renovation, the partition defines space while still allowing light to pass freely throughout the faux entry and living room.
the coffered ceiling, crown molding, and wall paneling used throughout this home's main level create visual harmony amongst the spaces. Changes in the color of the wall coverings lend separation between the entryway, dining room, and living room
With a wide open floor plan and soaring vaulted ceilings, this home could have ended up looking stark and cold. But rustic wood beams and columns affixed to the walls and ceiling lend separation and help break up the expansive main level. Here, the columns and beams join to form a faux doorway between the entry and living room.
I love the openess yet obvious divions created in this entry. although the room divided is marked mainly by the elevation, this is where some colunms and just a different appearance in the cieling and floor material can ahve an impact on room division.

these repeated light fixtures give a lot of character to an otherwise common hall
Halls can be delightful places to create your own art gallery. Since you frequently pass through these spaces, they are ideal for displaying collections of your favorite artwork and photographs. Depending on your gallery’s design, you will want to hang each art piece so that the center is at eye level or slightly lower, between 57 and 62 in. In general, oversize art is better placed in large rooms, where you can stand back from the work to appreciate its composition. Hallways are ideal for a collection of smaller pieces.
