BBR Curb Appeal
Using wood on the exterior of a project requires careful preparation and the use of very high performing stains and sealers. Here we used Sikkens "Log and Siding" following the manufacturer's recommendations. The color is 085 Teak. When properly applied we get great durability and longevity out of this product on cedar.
We used a spar urethane. It is formulated for exterior wood surfaces exposed to water, sunlight and temperature changes. In San Diego we have perhaps the mildest climate in the 48 - the finish in the image is now 4 years old and is holding up very well. I expect a few more years before minor cosmetic work will be required.
By "roofing", I assume you mean the ceiling material, which is 2 X 6 T & G fir with minimal knots ("near clear"), and a clear varithane finish (sanded twice).
Sikkens stain-special blend
It is actually hemlock (not cedar) and if memory serves, it was a Sikkens Natural Oak stain to ensure it didn'e "orange" up, too much.
