DESK AREA: Great example of built in desk, with storage. Use of a butcher block as top is creative and inexpensive way to bring together cabinets (and again tie into kitchen beams in other rooms). Over the desk light fixture saves space from need for desk lamp (and is pretty as well as non invasive to the outside view).
THIRD BEDROOM/TV ROOM: This is the best example of built in concept found. Imagine the bed as a sofa bed, and remove the coffee table entirely. On the lowest shelf (just before storage cabinets), building out the bottom shelf 5-10 inches farther than above shelving creates instant side tables for drinks, remotes, books, etc. and removes the need for additional side tables that take up unnecessary space.
DESIGN ELEMENT: This wood wall (which could be easily recreated with sanded and stained barn wood, or even old palettes sanded and stained for a rustic look) make a great focal point for small spaces, such as bedrooms. In this case, the wood element would also tie to the kitchen barn beams as a similar decorating / design style.
MASTER BEDROOM: Another way to make a small space feel bigger - symmetry on either side of bed, and furniture to the wall. For the side tables, West Elm (and others) makes side tables that have storage drawers to maximize space (ex: Penelope 3 Drawer or Malone Campaign Nightstand) . Also, they make beds with pull out storage at the bottom (West Elm Example: Contemporary Upholstered Storage Bed or Emmerson Reclaimed Wood Storage Bed), which could store spare sheets and blankets. Another great storage space for long, narrower bedrooms - storage drawers on side of bed + Small trunk for storage at the end of the bed.
BEDROOM (OR ANY ROOM): Again, love the use of ottomans. They act as chairs, and if a lidded version, also has a storage compartment for sheets, videos, electronics, books, etc. Again, through a tray on top, and it becomes a stable side table. Added benefits of ottomans include low sight lines that don't make the room feel smaller.
THIRD BEDROOM/TV ROOM: Another example of using a sofa bed (this one even has additional space outside of the actual bed, to the right) that could make a small third bedroom easily double as both private TV room separate from the first floor (could still have a small hidden TV in kitchen/sitting area) and spare bedroom when guests arrive. Also note trend from other layout - built in shelving surrounding the bed to save space.
THIRD BEDROOM: If a sofa bed was used for the bed, the third bedroom could become both TV room with full privacy, as well as desk room (see side glass table with desk chair - a more comfortable desk chair could double as a lounge chair. Just throw in a small, movable ottoman). Finally, floor to ceiling narrow depth cabinetry could eliminate the need for dressers/storage - and IKEA has many options on the cabinets, including those where the overhead compartment would also be storage.
By pushing the dining room table against the wall when not used, you’ve created a workspace for everything from art projects to paperwork. Also, if used bench seating on Wall Side, could completely flush table to wall. Bench seating is also easily movable outside (porch) or to other areas. Also note the separate seating space in essentially the same room - this could be accomplished with two small chairs or a settee in the space at the bottom of the stairs.
Example of a narrow dining room table. The open back chairs make smaller spaces feel more open. Also, brown table playing off of cream moldings.
Chalk wall - Potential idea for wall currently with floor to ceiling mirror, directly in front door - or narrow wall to right if refrigerator.
