The concept to note from this image is the "counter". It does not need to be as deep as your kitchen counter (24"), and can be as shallow as 12". It provides a nice place to rest bottles as you are taking them out, and provides a visual break. (I am NOT a big fan of the stone, or of the "tail in" storage method here.)
