VTD
What was once the upstairs attic is now a tranquil retreat at the end of busy days exploring! Boat loads of clutter was carted away, the room was fitted with new electricity, radiators, windows, plaster - the existing old terrazzo floor remained - plus a new exit door to the rooftop altana. The gondola-inspired headboards (one also in the downstairs twin bedroom) were designed by the architect as a convenient solution to opening the windows at night to allow for air flow. All curtain rods in the apartment were fashioned from inox, per the architect's instructions, and handcrafted in Sacramento before being shipped. Century-old watercolors by a great-aunt now have pride of place on the Venetian plaster walls, and along with the antique Persian rug (not visible). the home-made bedspread and the 1920s flea market side tables, this room now conveys an easy, laid-back, yet sophisticated, aura!
