I had someone manufacture the sides of the island to give it more of a sleek 'table' look. And an electrician to move all electrical outlets to hidden areas under the cabinets.
I ordered custom glass panes for the back splashes and under the island bar. Had to use something called 'starphire glass', which has a low amount of iron and doesn't have that typical green tint. That was important in order to get accurate color coming through.
I ordered some special 2-component paint that was more like a glue and applied it to the back of the glass.
Finally it was a matter of removing the old back splash, putting the painted glass in place, gluing it with silicon, and installing one more light under the bar.
