This house involved a complete make over from a rustic, traditional home to this contemporary, Asian inspired interior that you see here. We completely removed the old traditional fireplace mantel and marble surround, and replaced it with rough hewn quartzite. The built-ins were originally country looking cabinets, and were replaced with our custom designed European style cabinets and shelves. There is an Chinese latice patterned wallpaper in the niches behind the shelves. Each shelf has a light in it, so that the wallpaper shimmers! Most of the furniture was from Room and Board, and they were mixed with select mid century modern accent pieces. A traditional hand knotted, Indian rug sets the stage for all of the modern pieces and creates an eclectic feel.

The goal of this renovation project was to transform the congested spaces into a cozy yet open and inviting home that serves as a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The central vision was to create large, extroverted spaces that are light and airy, providing a seamless connection to nature. To achieve this, the we began by analyzing the existing layout and identifying areas that required major modifications. Then we reimagined the layout by creating more open spaces and connecting indoor and outdoor areas to give the home a natural flow. We drew inspiration from the clients' cultural heritage and love for modernity, merging the two into a cohesive design language. We worked closely with the clients to understand their personalities, preferences, and nostalgic memories to incorporate them into the overall design. To establish a connection to nature, the we chose materials, textures, and fabrics that evoke a sense of being outdoors. Natural materials such as wood and stone were incorporated throughout the house, while fabrics with organic patterns and motifs added to the natural theme. The landscape design also played a crucial role in establishing a connection to nature, with trees and plants carefully selected to create a familiar environment for the clients.

The "Corner Villa" design principles are meticulously crafted to create communal spaces for celebrations and gatherings while catering to the owner's need for private sanctuaries and privacy. One unique feature of the villa is the courtyard at the back of the building, separated from the main facade and parking area. This placement ensures that the courtyard and private areas of the villa remain secluded and at the center of the structure. In addition, the desire for a peaceful space away from the main reception and party hall led to more secluded private spaces and bedrooms on a single floor. These spaces are connected by a deep balcony, allowing for different activities to take place simultaneously, making the villa more energy-efficient during periods of lower occupancy and contributing to reduced energy consumption.
The villa's shape features broken lines and geometric lozenges that create corners. This design not only allows for expansive balconies but also provides captivating views. The broken lines also serve the purpose of shading areas that receive intense sunlight, ensuring thermal comfort.
Addressing the client's crucial need for a serene and tranquil space detached from the main reception and party hall led to the creation of more secluded private spaces and bedrooms on a single floor due to building restrictions. A deep balcony was introduced as a connecting point between these spaces. This arrangement enables various activities, such as parties and relaxation, to occur simultaneously, contributing to energy-efficient practices during periods of lower occupancy, thus aiding in reduced energy consumption.
