Since the ancient Greeks and then the Romans and the Byzantines used marble in their buildings because fascinated by the colors and their symbolic aspect.
Roman emperors serched for the most beautiful stones throughout their vast empire with an extraordinary passion. In the Renaissance and Baroque many of these stones were reused, using fragments and ruins of the ancient monuments. Architect Gherardo Degli Azzoni Avogadro Malvasia, proposing a continuity with the past, discovered in pure and fascinating locations many quarries that are still active.
I MARMI RITROVATI is a project whose aim is to promote a new cultural experience through the creation of new elements for floorings. The proposals are inspired by geometry used in ancient times and want to give a sense of continuity in the use of these wonderful stones through an interpretation of the drawings in a modern way.
Construction of the first marble objects dating from the Neolithic era. In the Cyclades Islands, where the marble is particularly abundant, there are small idols as well as large sculptures dating from the third millennium B.C.
Some variety of marble, originating in the Peloponnese ( porfido verde antico and rosso Antico), were used in the ancient Minoan civilization. In ancient Egypt, from the time predynastic, many variety of marble, granite, basalts and diorites were used for the production of ritual vessels. From the second dynasty began the use of syenite, a granite rock that was used in the pyramids of Chephren and Mycerinus.
