Inside the stepping stones are plantings of dwarf mondo grass, 'Sunshine' creeping veronica, and Corsican mint. Plantings include natives such as evergreen huckleberry, mountain hemlock, sword fern, and deer ferns.

Dig Your Garden Landscape DesignTo gain more usable space in this narrow landscape and update the hardscaping and overgrown garden, my design reconfigured the pathway with poured-in-place concrete pavers accented by Mexican pebbles and a stunning variety of succulents and other site-appropriate plantings that thrive in shade and part sun. We removed the tree to create a patio area large enough to fit a table and chairs for a small group. Non-invasive/clumping Bamboo was added to help screen the patio and provide privacy. Other shade to part-shade plants were included that provide a variety of textures and colors throughout the seasons. Low-voltage lighting was installed for safety and ambiance. Designed and built as a speculative house, the Spring Hill Residence includes 4,300 square feet of living area and a detached garage and upper level unit located in the west of market area of Kirkland.
Spring Hill Residence was selected as the September 2000 Seattle Times/AIA Home of the Month and was featured in the February 25, 2000 Pacific Northwest Magazine. Awarded Best Custom Residence by the Master Builders Association, 2001.

Lane Goodkind Landscape ArchitectOnce completely dominated by Eucalyptus forest, this site was degraded with poor soils and the house construction created a large area of disturbance. We restored the site to the point that within a year it looks as though nature slowly took over on its own. A strictly native plant palette of simple textures and masses of similar species achieves the affect. This garden was featured in the 2013 Santa Barbara Botanic Garden annual garden tour.
