Native Edge LandscapeAfter their brand new construction was completed, this family had a beautiful and comfortable home that truly fit their needs. However, this new construction lacked an outdoor living space, which left the backyard feeling stark and bare. With this blank slate, we were able to create a relaxing environment for this family to enjoy.
Faced with the challenge of using every square-inch of this small space, Native Edge was able to design a landscape that left this family worry-free. We incorporated a low maintenance composite decking system, modern raised metal planters, and a bubbling urn water feature to tie this peaceful landscape together. The poor drainage of the lot gave us the opportunity to create a striking cat walk and drainage feature, which left ample room for their vegetable and herb garden hobby. There is even a nook for the family dog to enjoy!

Clara Lambert DesignThis Family in Northwest DC wanted a cozy, lush space filled with Natives and with plenty of space to grow vegetables. The landscape beds are full of native shrubs and perennials with an emphasis on year round beauty. Plants were seleccted for their beneficial insect host properties as well as for beauty. Flowering perennials were selected so that something will be in bloom all season long; from the early spring Virginia Bluebells to the fall flowering Goldenrod.
The herb spiral was hand made by Clara herself and is a favorite feature of this productive, inviting space.

Living Gardens Landscape DesignOur homeowners were looking for a garden where they could sit by the fire, grow vegetable and hear the sound of water. Their home was new construction in a modern farmhouse style. We used gravel and concrete as paving. Board formed concrete firepit keeps it feeling modern. The vegetable beds supply season vegetables and herbs.

Pacific Garden DesignDespite being just a couple miles from the downtown core, this home feels decidedly rural. Its streamside setting provides an opportunity for urban homesteading, with the homeowners maintaining a vegetable and herb garden as well as raising small livestock. The low-maintenance landscape complements the contemporary residence with geometric forms, but uses natural materials and native or drought-tolerant plants to blend the home into its setting.
