Charlotte DreamScapesThis beautiful, all-cedar privacy fence warmly welcomes visitors and keeps the eyes looking around the yard. The arbor extends over the patio to continue the green-black trim to better frame the white house. The HVAC units have been fenced in with a visual screen that lets airflow through - and the panels are removable for maintenance access. We also replaced the old planter boxes on the front windows.
Native Edge LandscapeAfter this home was completely rebuilt in the established Barton Hills neighborhood, the landscape needed a reboot to match the new modern/contemporary house. To update the style, we replaced the cracked solid driveway with concrete ribbons and gravel that lines up with the garage. We built a retaining to hold back the sloped, problematic front yard. This leveled out a buffer space of plantings near the curb helping to create a welcoming accent for guests. We also introduced a comfortable pathway to transition through the yard into the new courtyard space, balancing out the scale of the house with the landscape.

It also offered an opportunity to incorporate the homeowner's love of Japanese Zen gardens. We designed a contemplative space that melds the traditional Zen aesthetic with Northwest plants and materials.
The back yard is a peaceful retreat with stone features and restrained planting. Stone steps lead to a lower gravel patio with Montana sandstone benches.

Ferdinand Castillo Landscape Architectthis project began with an dilapidated site with no landscape. The large front yard was unusable for this family with 2 young boys. the inspiration was to create a clean modern space but with ample room for the children to have practical outdoor play areas. the anchor of the project was to use a large 2 ton rock, already purchased by the owner, and create a center piece. the rock was converted into a water feature and the space was developed into a meditative seating pit wrapped in corten steel. the remaining areas were developed as retaining / seat walls bordering the open lawn play areas. modern railings & fence were designed to wrap the upper patio and perimeter fence. landscape lighting provide enough light for safety and mood.
Dig Your Garden Landscape DesignPhoto taken just after installation, see updated photos. The front areas of this landscape were transformed from a tired, water thirsty lawn into a contemporary setting with dramatic concrete pavers leading to the home's entrance and a new driveway using large concrete slabs with small black pebbles set in resin. Plants for sun and part shade complete this project, just completed in February 2014.
