LAND BY DESIGNPoured in place over-sized concrete pavers reinforced with wire mesh and separated with Mexican beach pebble form the basis of this outdoor patio / outdoor room landscape architecture garden design. Square pavers contrast with the softer circularity of the boundary. A planting scheme with a pom pom topiary is a nod to the retro contemporary style of the property and contrasts nicely with the white wall. A ring of flowering hydrangeas soften the architecture and contain the space. Japanese maple and ornamental grasses provide variety of texture and color whilst the vinca ground-cover and overall texture ensure interest throughout the year.

Light is an amazing thing. It illuminates everything around us and allows us to see. Unfortunately, every night the sun removes itself along with its full spectrum of light. Now those things that we would normally see like steps, trees, or pools become difficult to see. Climbing stairs without lighting is a great way to fall. Even worse is if you miss the stairs and run face first into a tree. Worse than that is if you fall into the pool. You can see where this is going. Lighting up a landscape is important for safety. Any family or friends who aren’t familiar with the property could be endangered without a properly lit environment.
2. Security
I promise these aren’t scare tactics, but security is a valid concern. Thieves prospecting a property will look in from the street. A well-lit building will have a better chance of scaring off a potential burglar compared to a non-lit darker front-yard. It is much easier to sneak around in the dark than in a well-lit beautiful landscape.
3. Beauty and Value

Depending on the slope and grade of your property, stairs can provide both a functional and aesthetic value in landscape design. In Colorado, plentiful redstone is a natural choice for durability (the elements are fierce here!). Groundworks IncThis Rear Garden originally designed by Kim Hoyt RLA was re- planted with a palette of easy care perennials , ground-cover and small trees. The Bluetone patio accented by brick complements the original stacked stone wall. Large urns and bowls filled with evergreens provide a focal point in the space.
