Amber Freda Garden DesignThis Carroll Gardens rooftop looks like home, sweet home to us with its cozy furniture, built-in ipe planters, string lights, and a pergola. The built-in planters contain Steed hollies, maiden grass, and Japanese forest grass. In the pergola area, black fiberglass planters contain Boston ivy to climb up the pergola posts. There is drip irrigation and low-voltage up-lighting included in all the planters for a dramatic nighttime effect. See more of our projects at www.amberfreda.com.
Down2Earth Landscape DesignMy clients wanted a backyard retreat where they could make the most of their sloping pie shaped lot. We upgraded the gardens under the tree canopy with new focal points and seasonal interest, despite the shade. A new deck with pergola and custom privacy screen to give them a cozy space within a large yard. A pea gravel courtyard, one of the sunniest spots in the backyard created a nook in a previously unused part of the yard which provides a beautiful view of all their gardens.

Northwest Native Landscapes LLCThis compact, urban backyard was in desperate need of privacy. We created a series of outdoor rooms, privacy screens, and lush plantings all with an Asian-inspired design sense. Elements include a covered outdoor lounge room, sun decks, rock gardens, shade garden, evergreen plant screens, and raised boardwalk to connect the various outdoor spaces. The finished space feels like a true backyard oasis.

Dig Your Garden Landscape DesignTo gain more usable space in this narrow landscape and update the hardscaping and overgrown garden, my design reconfigured the pathway with poured-in-place concrete pavers accented by Mexican pebbles and a stunning variety of succulents and other site-appropriate plantings that thrive in shade and part sun. We removed the tree to create a patio area large enough to fit a table and chairs for a small group. Non-invasive/clumping Bamboo was added to help screen the patio and provide privacy. Other shade to part-shade plants were included that provide a variety of textures and colors throughout the seasons. Low-voltage lighting was installed for safety and ambiance. Creative Zen, Inc. Landscape Designer & ContractorKoi pond in between decks. Pergola and decking are redwood. Concrete pillars under the steps for support. There are ample space in between the supporting pillars for koi fish to swim by, provides cover from sunlight and possible predators. Koi pond filtration is located under the wood deck, hidden from sight. The water fall is also a biological filtration (bakki shower). Pond water volume is 5500 gallon. Artificial grass and draught resistant plants were used in this yard.
Mockingbird HomeThis lovely West Houston home, built in 1963, was completely remodeled inside and out; including lush gardens. A formerly boxed in floor plan was opened up to reveal generous spaces perfect for a large family or entertaining.
London Landscapes LLCDeer resistant plantings. This selection of perennials and shrubs are bearing up well under the pressure from a large herd of deer that frequently hang out in this open area. The perennials are astilbe, carex, evergreen autumn fern, hellebore, and variegated solomon's seal. Shrubs include abelia, itea, laurel, mugho pine and oak leaf hydrangea.
