Native Edge LandscapeCustomer wanted to ditch their grass yard in favor of colorful native plants that would create a charming scene for friends and neighbors alike. They dreamed of a gathering space in their front yard that looked out over their native plantings, so we added a seating area with cafe lights and raised steel planters so that the plantings could be enjoyed while seated. Black star gravel was added for furniture and plant contrast, making them pop against the home and landscaping.

Colm Joseph GardensIn the front garden, a minimalist planting design of multi-stem Amelanchier lamarckii trees underplanted with Hakonechloa macra grass creates a striking arrival area.
Closer to the house, a sculptural 'river' of corten steel screens is designed to partially conceal and reveal views as you move through the space. The steel screens also add verticality to help balance the garden with the strong visual presence of the architecture.
Approaching the house, the minimalist driveway planting design transitions to more naturalistic, diverse planting of herbaceous perennials and ornamental grasses.
The planting softens the architecture and helps connect the house to the beautiful rural landscape.

Io LandArchIo designed the entire landscape for this small farm located in the Ogden Valley area. The Beautiful almost 10-acre site was originally farmland, and the master plan for this project envisions preserving the rural character and function of the landscape by creating a small-scale, self-sustaining farm. Io helped to program the uses across the site, planning for a rotational pasture system for horses, cows and sheep. The site also includes a kitchen garden and orchard with beehives. Chickens and ducks were also located near the kitchen garden and house for fresh eggs. The landscape was not only designed to be functional, but also beautiful, with a formal patio and infinity edge pool overlooking the pastoral scene adjacent lake.

Home & Garden Design, Atlanta - Danna Cain, ASLAThe owners of this tiny front yard craved an interesting front yard that was colorful, drought tolerant and filled with herbs. We began by tearing out the hillside of junipers and overgrown hollies against the house. We created an interesting bedline, added boulders for visual interest and lots of good garden soil. In the areas for the most drought tolerant plants such as rosemary, lavender and sedums, we further amended to soil to insure extremely well drained soil preferred by these plants. All plant choices are drought tolerant and can tolerate the full sun of this south facing slope. In this early spring photo you see blue phlox in full bloom along the walk leading to front door. In the foreground, fragrant dianthus is just beginning to bloom. Behind the dianthus, fall blooming asters are just beginning to emerge. This is a landscape of 4 season interest.
