Pro-Land Landscape Construction Inc.With a lengthy list of ideas about how to transform their backyard, the clients were excited to see what we could do. Existing features on site needed to be updated and in-cooperated within the design. The view from each angle of the property was already outstanding and we didn't want the design to feel out of place. We had to make the grade changes work to our advantage, each separate space had to have a purpose. The client wanted to use the property for charity events, so a large flat turf area was constructed at the back of the property, perfect for setting up tables, chairs and a stage if needed. It also created the perfect look out point into the back of the property, dropping off into a ravine. A lot of focus throughout the project was the plant selection. With a large amount of garden beds, we wanted to maintain a clean and formal look, while still offering seasonal interest. We did this by edging the beds with boxwoods, adding white hydrangeas throughout the beds for constant colour, and subtle pops of purple and yellow. This along with the already breathtaking natural backdrop of the space, is more than enough to make this project stand out.

Native Edge LandscapeThis project is another example of how to maximize small spaces. This customer’s small Brentwood yard was centered around their new plunge pool. However, the existing pavers and layout left much to be desired. We reworked the pavers to create usable spaces and clean lines, and a vines and lighting work with the custom pergola to increase the privacy and add a soft vertical element to encourage the intimate feel of the space. Two other structures block the pool equipment and AC compressor from sight. This reduces the visual weight of these areas and allows the eye to focus on the crown jewel of the space… the pool.

PHASE2 BUILDERS INC.When we first surveyed the site, we saw staff bicycles strewn around the space, mostly in hard to see places to avoid theft. As a result, we integrated a protected and hidden sturdy bicycle storage area in the space, keeping bikes safe and organized. The opposite side of this redwood sawn partition, we re-purposed an old bench from the site and integrated into the new design.

House 7, named the "Concrete Village Home", is Cheng Design's seventh custom home project. With inspiration of a "small village" home, this project brings in dwellings of different size and shape that support and intertwine with one another. Featuring a sculpted, concrete geological wall, pleated butterfly roof, and rainwater installations, House 7 exemplifies an interconnectedness and energetic relationship between home and the natural elements.

ClassiCut Inc.Our customer, the homeowner, had an overgrown landscape bed so she hired us to remove the top layer of weeds and dirt and install this 2 course rustic edging / wall. The homeowner had the idea of putting a strip of lime around the outside of the wall to prevent grass and weeds from growing right up to it so that's what we did and it turned out well. We did not install the solar path lights. The only plants we left in the bed are the lilac bush and the crab apple tree and a clump of asters at both ends. The homeowner purchased and planted the dwarf fountain grasses herself. The yellow flower is Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' and the purple coneflowers are Echinacea 'Magnus'
