building Lab, inc.Eichler in Marinwood - At the larger scale of the property existed a desire to soften and deepen the engagement between the house and the street frontage. As such, the landscaping palette consists of textures chosen for subtlety and granularity. Spaces are layered by way of planting, diaphanous fencing and lighting. The interior engages the front of the house by the insertion of a floor to ceiling glazing at the dining room.
Jog-in path from street to house maintains a sense of privacy and sequential unveiling of interior/private spaces. This non-atrium model is invested with the best aspects of the iconic eichler configuration without compromise to the sense of order and orientation.

The London Gardener LtdWe were asked to design and plant the driveway and gardens surrounding a substantial period property in Cobham. Our Scandinavian clients wanted a soft and natural look to the planting. We used long flowering shrubs and perennials to extend the season of flower, and combined them with a mix of beautifully textured evergreen plants to give year-round structure. We also mixed in a range of grasses for movement which also give a more contemporary look.

Karl Harrison Landscapes LtdA Millboard composite deck in Chorleywood started as a simple decking project which became a whole garden design. Inspirational and realistic decking design leads from the property across several transition changes into a natural garden. An abundance of insect and pollinator plants, winding paths, and a circular lawn. An exciting landscape in a relatively small garden.
Cantilevered Millboard Decking
For this Chorleywood-based client, the deck was the most important aspect of the garden so it had to be something special. Fortunately, the natural slope of the garden gave Karl the opportunity to design a cantilevered deck. This design makes the leading edge appear to float – something Karl emphasised by painting the substructure black. This illusion is further enhanced with lighting; an LED strip creates a warm glow from underneath the deck.
As well as the cantilever the deck is comprised of multiple levels. The architectural nature of these reflects the contemporary architecture of the extension to the house. These levels also aid the transition from the house to the garden while making use of the natural slope.

Landscape LogicWe are giving this outdated landscape some new curb appeal. We flanked the sidewalk with trees that we will light up at night with LED landscape lighting. The property line will be lined with small, low-maintenance, shrubs. The front sidewalk will be lined with river rock which will keep the sidewalk clean from debris and will help to keep the animals out of the yard.

The London Gardener LtdWe were asked to redesign a large garden in Wandsworth, SW18. It needed to be child-friendly, with a sunken trampoline and a large real grass lawn and plenty of space to entertain and enjoy the sun. Also our client was anxious to keep the garden private, and to block views into the garden where possible. We were fortunate to be able to enjoy a number of mature trees in other gardens, and this allowed us to focus more on the medium and lower layers of planting. We mixed long-flowering shrubs and perennials with small multi-stemmed trees, all of which were planted with a long season of interest in mind. The planting around the sunken trampoline had to be kept low so the children could be seen from the house, and also robust incase it got landed on!
