Idee per uno studio yoga etnico
Veranda yoga - webuser_957685171

My clients have an active yoga practice and a dedicated space for that was planned into the home. The concrete floor was painted with a custom lotus mandala by a friend of the homeowner. We then pulled a warm rust tone from the mandala to use as the wall colour. The effect is a space that feels peaceful and meditative.

After taking a private yoga class with my client in her home basement I was inspired to turn the room into a real yoga enviornment. I imported the fabric from Morroco to upholster the walls and deaden the sound., tented the ceiling with a sheer fabric embellished with pearls and used a Fortuny fixture for the pendant light. We were underground so I found some wonderful Buddahs and placed them outside in front of the windows. An upholstered plateform was made for the teacher so she could see the whole class from above.

The former housekeeper's studio apartment was gutted to the studs and reimagined as a private yoga studio. Light-stained cypress wainscoting establishes a warm environment while functionally protecting the walls from handstand activity. Antique wooden screens were repurposed as window shutters in the center of the studio space to create a meditative focal point but also provide privacy and filter the southern exposure.

An unused bedroom was converted for use as a yoga and meditation room. Custom shoji screens were fabricated and installed by LA Shoji . Designed by Miriam Paige to use solar screening rather than paper for privacy and sun control.
Precise plaster work was applied to soften ceiling ridges, creating a harmonious flow from the floor to the ceiling through a variety of materials and textures.

Meticulously-trimmed arched cubbies make perfect use of corner spaces by eliminating opportunities for head-bumping on hard corners while keeping with the design concept.
