A local Corvallis family contacted G. Christianson Construction looking to build an accessory dwelling unit (commonly known as an ADU) for their parents. The family was seeking a rustic, cabin-like home with one bedroom, a generous closet, a craft room, a living-in-place-friendly bathroom with laundry, and a spacious great room for gathering. This 896-square-foot home is built only a few dozen feet from the main house on this property, making family visits quick and easy. Our designer, Anna Clink, planned the orientation of this home to capture the beautiful farm views to the West and South, with a back door that leads straight from the Kitchen to the main house. A second door exits onto the South-facing covered patio; a private and peaceful space for watching the sunrise or sunset in Corvallis. When standing at the center of the Kitchen island, a quick glance to the West gives a direct view of Mary’s Peak in the distance. The floor plan of this cabin allows for a circular path of travel (no dead-end rooms for a user to turn around in if they are using an assistive walking device). The Kitchen and Great Room lead into a Craft Room, which serves to buffer sound between it and the adjacent Bedroom. Through the Bedroom, one may exit onto the private patio, or continue through the Walk-in-Closet to the Bath & Laundry. The Bath & Laundry, in turn, open back into the Great Room. Wide doorways, clear maneuvering space in the Kitchen and bath, grab bars, and graspable hardware blend into the rustic charm of this new dwelling. Rustic Cherry raised panel cabinetry was used throughout the home, complimented by oiled bronze fixtures and lighting. The clients selected durable and low-maintenance quartz countertops, luxury vinyl plank flooring, porcelain tile, and cultured marble. The entire home is heated and cooled by two ductless mini-split units, and good indoor air quality is achieved with wall-mounted fresh air units.

Qualche generazione fa, la lavanderia come stanza a sé stante non esisteva. Esisteva invece un lavatoio esterno alla casa, quasi sicuramente in comune con altre abitazioni. Con il passare del tempo, la zona lavanderia è diventato uno spazio definito della casa, a volte associato al bagno, altre volte destinato ad un angolo del seminterrato, dove possiamo trovare un semplice lavabo ed una lavatrice. La lavanderia può essere però molto più di questo.

Come arredare una lavanderia in casa

Avere uno spazio da dedicare al lavaggio di panni, vestiti e biancheria, anche se piccolo, risulta essere estremamente comodo ed è difficile che una casa o un appartamento ne siano privi. Una lavatrice spesso può bastare per i lavaggi quotidiani, soprattutto se lo spazio a disposizione si riduce a un angolo del proprio bagno, ma avere la disponibilità di una stanza intera significa anche dover organizzare e allestire questa stanza, in modo che risulti ordinata, funzionale e, perché no, esteticamente bella. Molte sono le soluzioni possibili che ti aiuteranno ad arredare al meglio la zona lavanderia, dagli elettrodomestici più conosciuti a mobili e armadi. Per prima cosa è opportuno scegliere accuratamente il luogo dove allestire la lavanderia. Ricordati che avrai bisogno dell'impianto adeguato per l'acqua ed è consigliabile dotare la stanza di una finestra per il ricambio d'aria. Si farà molto uso di acqua e di sostanze chimiche, quindi aerare costantemente il locale vi aiuterà a prevenire l'insorgere di muffa a causa dell'umidità e pulirà l'aria dagli agenti chimici. Passiamo all'accesso. La porta che vi introdurrà in questo spazio è consigliabile che sia una porta scorrevole o a soffietto. Il motivo è subito detto: porte di questo tipo sono più comode da aprire quando si hanno fra le mani oggetti ingombranti da trasportare. Quando entrerai o uscirai dalla lavanderia, starai quasi sicuramente trasportando una cesta piena di biancheria e le classiche porte potrebbero crearti dei piccoli problemi di ingombro. Per lo stesso motivo, una porta a soffietto o scorrevole non ruberà spazio ulteriore all'interno della stanza e potrai sfruttare ogni centimetro.

Che cosa mi serve nella mia lavanderia

Per prima cosa, meglio pensare ad installare gli elementi e gli elettrodomestici che richiedono l’allacciamento all’acqua o all’elettricità: lavatrice, lavandino e, se ne possiedi una, asciugatrice. Passa poi a procurarti gli altri elementi essenziali alla tua lavanderia : ferro da stiro, stendibiancheria, mobili e armadietti da utilizzare come dispensa per detersivi, saponi, mollette per stendere, e tutti gli altri oggetti utili per il lavaggio e la cura degli indumenti. Non sono pochi elementi, ma tra questi, quelli che occuperanno uno spazio consistente saranno gli elettrodomestici e i mobili. Stendibiancheria e asse da stiro possono essere riposti sia all'interno di un armadio abbastanza alto che appoggiati alla parete della stanza. Se si ha abbastanza spazio, la stiratura e stenditura dei capi può essere effettuata direttamente nella zona lavanderia. Consigliamo di utilizzare mobili e armadietti da agganciare al muro, in modo da sfruttare lo spazio in altezza e lasciare più libertà di movimento all'interno della lavanderia. Accostando asciugatrice e lavatrice, potrai predisporre poco sopra di esse una mensola o un ripiano di lavoro, fissato alla parete. In questo modo eviterai di rovinare la superficie degli elettrodomestici con gli agenti chimici dei detersivi e non rischierai che, durante le fasi di lavaggio e asciugatura, a causa delle vibrazioni prodotte, gli oggetti posti sopra di essi possano cadere.
