This stunning glass enclosed modern custom wine cellar was designed and installed by Vintage Cellars earlier this year. The Contemporary Custom Wine Room was fitted into an existing fireplace space, turning the visually unappealing sore thumb of the room into a magnificent show stopping centerpiece. This modern luxury condo on the 31st floor in a downtown San Diego high-rise acted as a very interesting project for the custom wine cellar design team at Vintage Cellars. The modern wine room space has dual paned, insulated glass but because of the nature of glass itself, the cooling unit was recommended to be oversized. The custom wine room space itself didn't have great options for venting the cooling unit due to the location on the 31st floor. The best option to vent was determined to treat the wine room as a wine cabinet, per se. The Cooling Unit, a CellarPro 1800 XTS, was placed in the ceiling, venting down cool air and circulating vented air back upward. The result works perfectly for a uniquely modern and contemporary space such as this. This fully enclosed, glass front custom wine cellar boasts a 300 bottle capacity with a sleek, modern, label forward feel that ULTRA Wine Peg racking is known for. The center section is a double stacked full reveal display row, showcasing some of the homeowner's finer wines. Though no particular space was made within the wine racking area, the design of this modern custom wine cellar was pushed back a couple of feet so that wine case storage could be an option between the glass front and the custom racking. Additionally, the clean feel goes even further upon looking for the entrance into this wine cellar. The flat panel on the furthest left side opens slowly and almost magically when pushed in slightly. A great, modern touch! A gorgeous, modern condo such as this is just begging to have a custom wine cellar. This space, with big help from this contemporary wine room, screams luxury upon entering. Ciò che non manca mai nella casa di un vero amante del vino è una cantina personale, magari allestita in taverna o nel seminterrato. Nelle serate primaverili ed estive, quando il clima si fa più mite, rilassarsi in veranda con un buon bicchiere di vino della propria riserva è un ottimo modo per concludere la giornata. Una cantina classica deve essere allestita in un modo ben preciso per poter conservare al meglio le bottiglie di vino: non essendo un semplice sgabuzzino o deposito, questa particolare stanza deve essere strutturata in modo da favorire temperatura costante e giusta dose di umidità. Un ambiente troppo umido potrebbe favorire la formazione di muffe sui tappi di sughero; al contrario un ambiente troppo asciutto potrebbe farli seccare e comprometterne la tenuta. Le cantine chic possono essere inoltre utilizzate per conservare altri tipi di alcolici nonché alimenti come salumi, insaccati e conserve.

Come allestisco e arredo la cantina tradizionale di casa?

Se deciderai di sfruttare una parte del tuo seminterrato adibendola a cantina classica, dovrai prima di tutto assicurarti che non ci siano finestre o infiltrazioni di luce. La luce solare è infatti deleteria per il vino in quanto ne altera il sapore ed è altrettanto dannosa per liquori, birre, salumi e insaccati. La luce solare inoltre rischierebbe di compromettere la quantità necessaria di umidità che deve essere assolutamente presente: le pareti devono mantenere il luogo a temperatura costante tra i 12°C e i 18°C, elemento fondamentale per la perfetta maturazione ed affinamento del vino. Le cantine chic non sono però da intendere come un luogo a sé stante della casa. Sono stanze come le altre e in quanto tali possono essere arredate in modo da renderle un ambiente accogliente e ospitale, dove invitare i propri amici e mostrare loro la cura con cui conservi le tue scorte di vino.

Come scelgo gli scaffali per la mia cantina tradizionale e quali cantinette frigo acquistare?

Elemento indispensabile per una cantina di un grande appassionato di vini è la scaffalatura, in legno o in metallo, nella quale riporre le bottiglie e le riserve di cibo. Potresti dedicare una parete intera agli scaffali per il vino, oppure, se la stanza che avrai deciso di trasformare in cantina non presenta le condizioni adatte, potresti utilizzare una delle numerose cantinette per vino disponibili sul mercato, piccole dispense climatizzate che ricreano al proprio interno la temperatura adatta alla conservazione delle tue preziose bottiglie. Posiziona le bottiglie su mensole che dovranno essere delle dimensioni adatte a contenere le bottiglie inclinate tendenti ad una posizione orizzontale, in modo che il tappo, a contatto diretto con il vino, rimanga morbido e non si crepi, evitando pericolose infiltrazioni di ossigeno. È importante anche conoscere l’ordine in cui andrai a collocare sugli scaffali i tipi di vino: i vini bianchi andranno nei ripiani inferiori, leggermente più freschi, mentre i vini rossi in quelli superiori a contatto con l’aria più calda. Ricorda inoltre che il vino traspira l’ambiente che lo circonda, non vorrai mai che venisse contaminato da sostante chimiche ed odori troppo forti: evita di sistemarlo accanto a cibi stagionati o su mensole in legno trattate chimicamente.

Come decorare la cantina classica

Idealmente la cantina che tutti abbiamo in mente ha i mattoni a vista e il soffitto a botte. Non dimenticare però che puoi integrarne lo stile con quello della tua casa. Se vuoi ovviare ai tradizionali pietra e legno, puoi progettarla con vetro e metallo per una soluzione più moderna. Al centro della stanza potrai collocare un vecchio tavolo in legno restaurato e riverniciato, corredato di sgabelli e panche o un paio di botti in legno da utilizzare come piano d’appoggio. Per concludere l’arredo, consigliamo di dotare la tua enoteca neoclassica privata di una credenza con i bicchieri: calici, flûte e coppe. Non dimenticare di dotare l’angolo degustazione di apribottiglie e decanter: in questo modo avrai tutto l’occorrente per organizzare una piacevole serata con i tuoi ospiti.
