Pu'uwai Design & ConstructionThis gorgeous guest suite is light and bright perfect for any guest. The color pallet is mostly white with the addition of some bright pops of yellow and green, complimenting the lush landscaping surrounding the space. The bed covering is a white quilt with matching shams, a white duvet adds extra comfort, custom yellow throw pillows add pops of color to the fresh pallet. The bed is mango wood made custom in Indonesia, the nightstands are also mango wood made to match. The lamps are hand blown glass with natural woven shades. The artwork is by local artist Pepe. The woven blinds were custom ordered. The jute rug adds a natural touch and the warm gray tile floors keep things neutral.
UserThe guest room of this stately mountain home boasts a cozy corner for its visitors. Ivory walls are trimmed with rich taupe moldings, and windows painted Sherwin Williams Black Fox offer a peek of the mountainous lake views just outside. Pencil-pleated draperies in an almond and vanilla floral fall from iron rods. In the window hangs a woven blind that echoes the walnut stain of the hardwood floors. Two-toned inset cabinets offer both storage and display space and are painted the same color as the moldings. The stained interior brims with personal touches including books, a mirrored photo frame, bronze bunny and ivy-filled vanilla pot. The traditional tufted chair is covered in cream chenille and topped with an eggshell throw. A black chairside chest provides a place to rest a book or drink. Beside the chair stands an iron floor lamp topped with an ecru shade. The lamp’s body is made to look like a tree’s branch, mirroring the nearby landscape.

Francesco Pierazzi ArchitectsThe conversion of a large attic space is, in this project, the opportunity to release the potential of a trapped space. Underused, neglected and relegated to the storage of forgotten belongings, the design of the roof space becomes the revelation of concealed possibilities.
The outline for the project is the transformation of the cathedral-like timber structure under the roof into a self-contained space, separate from the rest of the house. And to a degree the architecture too is part of the brief, as the client has indicated that naval architecture should become a source of inspiration for the architect.
The roof is reminiscent of a steep capsized keel and is extended to the north to create a gable-ended façade and to re-balance the front elevation, while dormers are inserted into the front and rear slopes to create dual-aspect interiors.
The stairwell is located centrally to the floor plan to emphasize the ascent and generate an architectural focal point that organizes the arrangement of the spaces around it. It has a swinging form, inspired by the mechanism of the periscope, that bounces users in one direction and then the other. The stair thus acts as a sort of sextant that measures the position of the individual in relation to the surrounding space.
The converted roof is designed ad hoc from the inside out, inviting users to engage with the outside either through windows or via the telescope-like elongated crawl space adjacent to the stair enclosure. It will accommodate a bedroom, a bathroom and study area open onto the landing and stairwell.

Albertsson Hansen Architecture, LtdA cabin in Western Wisconsin is transformed from within to become a serene and modern retreat. In a past life, this cabin was a fishing cottage which was part of a resort built in the 1920’s on a small lake not far from the Twin Cities. The cabin has had multiple additions over the years so improving flow to the outdoor space, creating a family friendly kitchen, and relocating a bigger master bedroom on the lake side were priorities. The solution was to bring the kitchen from the back of the cabin up to the front, reduce the size of an overly large bedroom in the back in order to create a more generous front entry way/mudroom adjacent to the kitchen, and add a fireplace in the center of the main floor.
