Help, Living area layout

Hi,

We are just renovating our house and I am struggling to decide the layout of our living area. We have not bought any furniture yet as we don't know where to place the tv and sofas. The main entrance opens to this living area and then this one is connected to the kitchen, so not sure what the best furniture arrangement would suit the space. Space will be painted in off white and wooden floors will be added.

I was kind of thinking to have an inbuilt long tv unit on the wall next to the french doors and then place an arrangement of sofas in front of the window facing the tv, but not sure if the sofas would look too far from the tv and secondly, I am concerned that you will be crossing this space and walking across the tv while people might be looking at it. Pretty much I thinking about doing the opposite from the photo uploaded as this was the place when it was for sale. Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated.

The challenge that you have is that the room is long and skinny, and if you limit yourself to furnishing to the end walls the sofa is always going to be too far from the TV, and there will always be traffic between the sofa and TV.

A better solution would be to have the TV in the same position as your sale photo, and bring the sofa forward by 1.5 metres off the wall, and closer to the TV. Use a narrow sofa table behind the sofa with a pair of table lamps (do the wiring before you install the timber floor), so that the walkway to the french doors to the family is behind the sofa, and not in front.

By not placing furniture against walls gives a more luxurious feel, will allow a better viewing of your TV, and be a nicer proportion.

I agree with bringing the sofa forward, closer to start of the patio window. If you are going to have more than one sofa, maybe have the other placed in front of the entrance way, but facing patio window, and as Dr Retro mentioned a sofa table/unit behind the sofa, making it a feature point from the main entrance.

The sofas would be placed in an L shape giving you a warmer cozier feel to the TV area.

A narrow hall way table/unit on the wall were the sofa is currently sitting in the photo you supplied Even a mirror on the wall above table for a formal touch, as it will also be seen from the main entrance.

We have a main entrance that opens up onto our two main living areas, so it took a bit of experimenting and rearranging our furniture till we settled on a practical layout, but at the sometime still having that entrance way feel to the home.

Buonasera, l'ingresso è una zona molto importante della casa in quanto funge da filtro fra l'ambiente esterno e l'intimità della casa. Purtroppo molto spesso viene eliminato poichè gli spazi della zona giorno non essendo soggetti come le camere ed i bagni a particolari regolamentazioni vengono realizzati sempre più piccoli. Venendo al suo caso, se nel soggiorno non deve inserire anche un tavolo, ritengo che ci sia lo spazio sufficiente per realizzare un ingresso. Penserei a qualcosa di leggero, che non tolga luce all'ingresso stesso e che non costringa a passaggi forzati. Anch'io sono dell'idea che sia meglio girare il senso di apertura della porta d'ingresso, come già consigliato dalla collega. Se vuole qualche consiglio in più, sarebbe utile conoscere i suoi gusti e capire se ha già degli arredi o deve acquistarli............

Esiste la regola di quanti lux sono necessari per ogni stanza, in seguito vanno calcolati in base ai corpi illuminanti. In una cucina di solito 300 - 350 lux, anche solo 250 diffusa e 350 - 450 sul piano di lavoro. Il fatto dei 6 faretti dice poco, possono emettere 100 lumen o 3000, idem le ottiche, ossia il tipo di fascio, infine il risultato che cercate, luce diffusa o accentuata in qualche zona.

Beh, intanto potresti iniziare togliendo tutti i quadretti/specchietti o qualunque cosa siano. Nonché i vari ninnoli sparsi sia sul piano della tua consolle sia sulle mensole. Lascia solo i libri, disposti ordinatamente, rispettando colore e altezza. Alle pareti un solo specchio, più grande, o una stampa se preferisci. Pasquale, se ti piace l’idea di Vecchiosetter non arredare la cucina accanto alla finestra. Il giardino non sarebbe fruibile a pieno, perché creeresti una porticina come unico passaggio, per di più attaccata alla zona operativa. Torno sempre all’ipotesi di avere amici, fare una festa...il giardino non è agilmente raggiungibile. Vecchiosetter, al di là dei ragionamenti sui disimpegni e gli allacci un conto è avere una vetrata panoramica e comoda sul giardino, un altro è una porta invisibile da tutto il resto della casa. Se non ci sono alternative mia accontento, ma le alternative non si trovano solo con il metro alla mano. Io non sono un architetto, ma...chiamerei un architetto...

Once you move in experiment with chairs and boxes for dimensions that suit you to get right traffic flow from entry to kitchen and tv and window then buy furniture to suit that sizing. Like idea of two couches in L shape. You may even be able to make a reading nook in that corner of the room where plant currently is

Put your tv on the wall that backs onto bed 1. Place a L shape couch facing the tv starting at the the little bit of wall in from of the patio door and the longer part facing the tv. Place a large rug under the couch and towards the tv to create the living space. Turn the small space behind the couch into a mud room with a bench and hooks. Or a small reading area with the arm chairs, a rug and a small coffee table.
