Ceiling light or fan?

My husband and I are buying a new construction home that has a great room with a double height ceiling. It will have can lighting and a junction box for a ceiling fan or chandelier.

I was initially not into the idea of getting a ceiling fan, but I haven't seen any light fixtures I like that are large enough to fit the space, so I'm thinking a ceiling fan might be more practical and will help with heating and cooling such a giant room.

If we do get a fan, we would get a Haiku with SenseMe technology, which I think is pretty stylish and has some neat features. There's a 60" version, which would be large enough to fit the space. We would get it in the light bamboo/white color.

I've attached a photo of the room from the model home, but unfortunately it doesn't capture the true height of the ceiling.

Please let me know why you chose fan or light and if we should go with a light I'm open to suggestions on the type. Our style is fairly contemporary.

You will need that fan in the summer months. If you have air conditioning the fan will only improve your air flow, and keep the room comfortable. Light fixtures that high up do not look attractive.

Thank you! That's what I'm thinking. The model has a large glass fixture, which I think looks okay, but it's not really my style. You can just barely see the bottom of it at the top of the photo.

Monica, forse tu non ci crederai ma io condivido le tue affermazioni, anche se penso che i modi d'uso di qualsiasi oggetto siano infiniti , e checomunque la questione che indetermina (che ha suscitato perplessità) non sia tanto il nome "lampadario" dato agli oggetti proposti, e intesa da alcuni nella accezione ristretta , quanto "per casa tua". Vorrei affermare subito che io per casa mia non sceglierei gli oggetti che porto in risposta nei miei progetti e nelle mie realizzazioni, per il semplice fatto che i miei bisogni sono diversi dalla totalità dei miei committenti , anche solo per il fatto che il mio spazio è abitazione +studio + laboratorio... Vorrei suggerire ai proponenti il quesito , se volessero continuare con altri modelli di oggetti, di togliere quella parte del quesito. Houzz è una piazza frequentata da molti professionisti e progettisti e loro no scelgono secondo la loro possibilità d'uso, ma per nome e per conto dei loro committenti all'interno di uno spazio che è altro dallo spazio personale e quotidiano del progettista...

Il lavabo ha due rubinetti pensavo di posizionare due luci in corrispondenza a questi. Grazie :) !

Hi all, I would like to know your opinion on material and color combinations ... I would like to go for a modern white gloss handless cabinets. I would like to put granite buy the only white one is the one attached Called ice white. The floor is light wood color. My husband is afraid it will look too old style and not sure if it works with a modern kitchen ! I cannot really see this combination on the net. Most of the time is quartz or marble but those options are outside our budget. Alternatively we should go for black granite but I am not a big fan of white and black kitchen. Thank you all!

If the room will be used for lounging and TV, I'd do the fan. If it will be used for cocktails and group entertainment, I'd do a chandelier.

Thank you! Love the photos. The room's main purpose will be for TV and lounging, though the floor plan is very open, so when we entertain it'll be used for that too.

I would recommend a ceiling paddle fan. It will even out your room temperature better, even with air conditioning. You may even be able to raise your thermostat in the summer, to help with energy costs. With enough recessed lights, you may not need a light on the fan.
